From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

England suffered a shock defeat to Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup at Headingley.

Eoin Morgan's men were on a high after a blistering innings from the skipper himself powered them to a 150-run win over Afghanistan at Old Trafford on Tuesday. But they came crashing down to earth at Headingley as Lasith Malinga shredded their top order on the way to a famous win.

Here's how it played out:

Please allow a moment for the live blog to load

Sri Lanka: 91-3 (22 overs)

Five singles from that over, as Rashid struggles to find his length early on.

Comfortable for the Sri Lankans. Spinners at both ends now...

Sri Lanka: 98-3 (23 overs)

Six balls, six singles. Simple stuff.

Current run rate: 4.26.

Meanwhile, I've found this absolute beauty of a photo of England's star man in this tournament so far, Joe Root.

100 up for Sri Lanka

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 12:14

Sri Lanka: 106-3 (24 overs)

A first boundary for Angelo Matthews who, helmet off for the spinners, just finds the gap wide off mid-on for four. Not the cleanest connection, but good enough.

Eight from that Adil Rashid over, who needs to bowl a tad fuller.

Sri Lanka: 114-3 (25 overs) Matthews 21 (42) Mendis 40 (55)

Bairstow and Woakes work well together on the leg-side boundary to stop four... twice!

Mendis this time tries his luck off-side and gets a couple once again.

A steady partnership now building... we're half-way through the innings and Sri Lanka are slowly recovering.

Sri Lanka: 115-3 (26 overs)

Rashid obviously checked out The Independent live blog in-between overs, as some fuller deliveries result in just one run from the over.

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 12:22

Sri Lanka: 118-3 (27 overs)

Four from that over by Moeen Ali - Mendis is now seven short of a half-century.

Partnership now at 57, despite a low run rate of 4.41.

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 12:25

Sri Lanka: 125-3 (28 overs)

Six from the over, but no boundaries as Matthews and Mendis continue to prod the ball around with ease.

Intensity of this game has dropped big time from the dramatic start we had.

Kieran Jackson21 June 2019 12:28

Sri Lanka: 128-3 (29 overs)

Ali finds some turn, and almost catches Mendis out, who is fortunate that an inside-edge onto the pad doesn't bounce up to Buttler.

With two balls left, Ali tries around the wicket, and starts off with a wide leg-side. A solitary single follows.

Ali has now bowled six overs, Rashid will be into his fifth...
