Eoin Morgan's men were on a high after a blistering innings from the skipper himself powered them to a 150-run win over Afghanistan at Old Trafford on Tuesday. But they came crashing down to earth at Headingley as Lasith Malinga shredded their top order on the way to a famous win.
Here's how it played out:

Mark Wood, speaking after the Sri Lanka innings:
"We started off brilliant. When we got wickets they didn't get away from us - great team performance."
"I think I'm in the form of my career, just got to keep it going."
"I hope I'm not going to be needed, pretty confident we can do the job."
So, you'd have to say England are favourites heading into the second innings.
For a team who has scored 300+ with regular ease over the past couple of years, they'll be delighted to limit Sri Lanka to 232.
So the Sri Lankans are out on the field preparing to defend 232.
James Vince and Jonny Bairstow will be out shortly.
A reminder that if England win, they will be top of the table.
England 1-0 (0.1 overs) - ENGLAND NEED 233 TO WIN
James Vince off the mark straight away, clipping the ball leg-side for a single.
WICKET! England 1-1. Bairstow lbw b Malinga 0 (1) (0.2 overs)
OH JONNY, HE'S GONE FIRST BALL!
It's a great delivery by Malinga, and the ball swings and hits the pad. Umpire gives it out, and a review sides with umpire's call as hawk-eye shows the ball was clipping leg stump.
Perfect start for Sri Lanka! And just like the opening game against South Africa, Bairstow goes for a golden duck, this time on his home ground!
England 3-1 (1 over)
Joe Root nicks one down to third man for two, and Vince fends off Malinga for a dot ball.
It's the start Sri Lanka wanted - can they build on it?
