From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kell Brook had his shot at one of the current pound-for-pound best in WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford at the MGM Grand, but was stopped in round four.
The undefeated Nebraskan is widely considered one of the best in the sport right now, and fought for the first time in 11 months in what was an impressive performance. Brook managed to win the first two rounds but lost the third and then was quickly stopped in the fourth, with Crawford unleashing and landing nine of 11 power shots to close the show.
Brook has suffered in recent years with injury after moving up to middleweight but returned to the welterweight division with what many believed was his career on the line. The fight headlined a busy card stacked full of American talent. Catch up on the live updates, scoring and analysis from the main event as well as full results from the night below.
Awaiting decision...
This pretty much sums up what we’re seeing right now…
Further delay...
Joshua Franco's trainer Robert Garcia on the delayed decision: "They're pretty much trying to screw us."
No decision
The commission stick with their decision and rule it a no contest due to an accidental headbutt. Awful decision.
Crawford-Brook time!
Now that’s over, it means it's time for the main event of the evening! Terence Crawford faces Kell Brook live next.
Kell Brook makes ring walk
Brook is on his way to the ring! Finally. If he pulls this off, it would go down as one of the greatest wins on away soil for a British fighter.
Fight underway
Here we go! The bell has rung and it’s go time. Round by round updates to follow.
Round 1: Crawford 9-10 Brook
A quiet round with both men sizing each other up but Brook’s lead jab to the body and head gives him the round.
Round 2: Crawford 18-20 Brook
Crawford switches from orthodox to southpaw to close the gap but Brook still does well, taking his time and picking off his opponent. Not much in it right now but I have it 2-0 Brook.
Round 3: Crawford 28-29 Brook
A close round but Crawford does well to close the space a bit more, and starts landing his combination punches. Brook doesn’t quite get his jab off the way he was in the first two.
