The Open 2024 LIVE: Golf leaderboard and result as Xander Schauffele wins Claret Jug ahead of Justin Rose
Schauffele won the Open at Troon with a stunning final round of 65 as American men swept all four majors for the first time since 1982
Xander Schauffele is The Open champion after carding a faultless final round to hold off the challenge of Justin Rose and win his second major championship of the year at Troon.
Schauffele, who won his first major title at the PGA Championship in May, shot a wonderful bogey-free round of 65, with six birdies, to take charge of a dramatic final round and lift the Claret Jug.
The American made crucial birdies at the 11th, 12th and 14th holes to move clear of a frustrated Rose, as well as Thriston Lawrence and overnight leader Billy Horschel, after the trio shared the lead heading into the back nine.
Schauffele’s victory means all four of this season’s majors have been won by Americans for the first time since 1982, with Scottie Scheffler winning the Masters and Bryson DeChambeau claiming the US Open.
Rose matched his best Open finish as the 43-year-old birdied the final hole to claim a share of second along with Horschel, while 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry finished sixth.

And here’s the winning moment from the American (though in truth he’d won it a few holes before).

Schauffele spoke to Sky right after the being awarded the Claret Jug. He started by saying that he “can’t wait to drink out of it”.
“My dad’s here so I’ll let him do the honours of choosing,” he adds.
“It really is a dream come true to be holding it. It definitely hasn’t sunk in yet. I can’t wait to sit back and have a moment with this Claret Jug.
“I thought [winning the PGA] would help me and it actually did. I had this sense of calm, a calm I didn’t have when I played earlier at the PGA. For some reason, I was calm and collected. I was telling my caddie that I felt pretty calm coming down the stretch and he said he was about to puke on the 18th tee!
“I just told myself to just hit it down there and keep moving along!”

Last few shots of The Open 2024. Billy Horschel lands a brilliant putt to end the day, giving him three birdies in a row to finish. He finishes on -7, tied for second place with Rose, having shot 68 today.
Lawrence makes par to finish -6 with a round of 68 too.

Very unusual from Lawrence as his attempt to clip out of the bunker bounces off the inside and goes behind him, landing out of the sand. His next shot finds the green though.
The trophy engraving is done and Schauffele looks a very happy man in the back rooms.

The tee shot from Horschel lands centrally on the fairway, threaded between the numerous bunkers. Lawrence’s shot isn’t as good, finding the sand trap.
Henley comes close with the birdie putt on 18, but knocks in for par. He’s finished on -5, having shot 69 today. Not bad at all, but another who’s fallen victim to what the commentators called Schauffele’s “devastating display of golf”.
The final pair are making their way up the 18th fairway now.

It’s fallen apart a little for Lawrence, as a birdie attempt that would’ve made the last hole interesting is misjudged, and he guides it wide.
Horschel does better with his effort, securing back-to-back birdies to get to -6.
At 18, Henley clips his second shot onto the green, but it overruns the pin and it’ll be par at best for the American.
