The Open 2019 tee times: Sunday pairings brought forward due to threat of poor weather

Leaders will tee off at 1:47pm in an effort to avoid bad weather due to hit Portrush on Sunday evening

The tee times for the final day at The Open have been moved forward by around an hour to avoid bad weather conditions, which are due to hit Northern Ireland's Royal Portrush course late in the evening.

The final group, which is currently set to be made up of Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood as they lead the way on -13 and -12 respectively, will take to the course at 1:47pm on Sunday afternoon.

The tee-off is an hour earlier than last year's final round at Carnoustie, and two hours earlier than when Lowry and JB Holmes started their third round on Saturday.

"Sunday tee times have been moved forward due to the adverse weather forecast," tournament organisers the R&A tweeted.

"The first tee time will be at 7:32am with the leaders beginning their final round at 1:47pm."

It is the second time this year that the final round of a major has been affected by weather, following the early finish to The Masters last April when Tiger Woods secured his 15th career major victory.

On that occasion, heavy thunderstorms expected in the afternoon lead to organisers deciding on a two-tee start and threesomes instead of pairings, though players will remain in twos at The Open and it has been decided that there is enough time for all groups to tee off from the first hole as planned.

Shane Lowry comes out onto the 18th green once again. This time to raise the Claret Jug, he's introduced as the Champion Golfer of the Year and the 148th Open Champion.

There's a huge grin on his face as he raises the trophy aloft, he thanks his backroom staff, the tournament organisers and is close to tears as he praises his family, his parents, wife and daughter. Finally a thank you goes to the volunteers and the record number of fans who came to Royal Portrush.

It's been a special week and four special rounds of golf from Shane Lowry.

Reaction from The Open Champion Shane Lowry:

"I feel like I'm in an out of body experience. I mean I was so calm going down the last hole I couldn't believe it, what a day!

"It was difficult out there, the weather was hard. It kind of turned into a two horse race with me and Tommy [Fleetwood] which was good for me, Brooks [Koepka] fell away, then JB [Holmes] and Lee [Westwood] and I tried to focus on staying as far ahead of Tommy as I could. 

"I talked to Beau a lot today, my caddie. I told that I can't stop thinking about winning and he stayed on me and had my back and kept talking in my ear, what a job he did today. I can't wait to wake up tomorrow morning, it's going to feel incredible.

"The next tournament I play is probably going to feel boring because this week was just something I've never seen on a golf course. [The supporters] kept me going, they really did."
