Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The 2018 Ryder Cup is underway at Le Golf National. Jim Furyk has selected Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka to lead the US team out in Paris and they will be up against Thomas Bjorn's strong opening pairing of Justin Rose and Jon Rahm.
Rory McIlroy and Thorbjorn Olesen will play match two against Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler, Paul Casey and rookie Tyrrell Hatton face Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth in match three, before the much-anticipated appearance of Tiger Woods alongside the fiery Patrick Reed, who play Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood.

Some of the very best golfers on the planet. Tiger Woods leads the American team while new world number one Justin Rose is Europe's leading light.
Who's going to win?
USA Evens
Europe 5/4
Draw 11/1
Casey & Hatton vs Spieth & Thomas
The third group of the morning prepares to get underway.
Rose & Rahm (1UP) vs Koepka & Finau
The Europeans retain their lead as all four men miss their birdie opportunities.
Casey & Hatton vs Spieth & Thomas
All four men are safe off the tee and Spieth almost holes his second! Only the pace of the backspin stopped him from making an eagle.
Rose & Rahm (1UP) vs Koepka & Finau
Rose hits an ugly slice off the tee on the third and finds the miniature pond and will have to take a drop.
Casey & Hatton vs Spieth & Thomas (1UP)
Ed Malyon on the first:
Jordan Spieth and Tyrell Hatton both hit perfect drives on the first in match three, with the former lipping out on an eagle shot from across the water but eventually handing the USA their first lead of the 2018 Ryder Cup with a birdie. Spiethy is cooking.
Rose & Rahm (1UP) vs Koepka & Finau
Rahm lays up to the left but Tony Finau smashes one on to the green for a routine two-putt birdie. Rahm will have to get up and down now to save the half...and he does. Good save.
Molinari & Fleetwood vs Woods & Reed
And it's the one they've all been waiting for. What a reception on the first.
Casey & Hatton vs Spieth & Thomas (1UP)
Jordan Spieth was this close to making eagle at the first.
Molinari & Fleetwood vs Woods & Reed
All four men find safety on the first. Fleetwood comfortably hits the heart of the green and Molinari too leaves a makeable birdie putt. Woods' backspin carries him back into the fringe. Patrick Reed catches it slightly fat and it's in the water! Captain America not taking flight just yet.
