Brooks Koepka held off the challenge of Viktor Hovland and the surging Scottie Scheffler to win his third US PGA Championship title and fifth major.

Koepka, who felt he had "choked" when holding the 54-hole lead at the Masters last month, kept his cool to shoot a final-round 66 at Oak Hill Country Club.

Hovland kept the pressure on and reduced Koepka’s lead to one with five holes to play - but the Norwegian’s chances evaporated with a double bogey at the 16th.

Scheffler’s fine 65 saw the American get to within two of Koepka, who held on to win his first major since his last PGA Championship in 2019.

The highlight of the day came from club professional Michael Block, the 46-year-old making a hole-in-one on the 15th as he played the final round alongside Rory McIlroy, who finished in a tie for seventh place.

Follow all the reaction and latest updates from Oak Hill below:

Trouble off the tee

Koepka -10 (16), Hovland -6 (16)

Koepka fires way right off the tee and has to chip out onto the fairway. It’s a well-judged wedge into the green and he’ll have a putt for par. Hovland’s drive trickles into the rough and his second comes up short and right of the green.

Scheffler up the last

Scheffler -6 (17)

Scheffler’s birdie attempt on the 17th races by and he remains at six under with one to play.

Double bogey for Hovland, Koepka leads by four

Koepka -10 (16), Hovland -6 (16)

And that surely is that.

Hovland can’t make the 20-foot putt for a bogey and it’s a double-bogey six for the Norwegian. Koepka applies the finishing touches to his perfect iron shot and converts for his birdie.

The four-time major champion now leads by four with two to play. Soon to be a five-time major champion, surely?

Koepka applies pressure

Hovland takes a drop and elects to just chip it back into the fairway. He fires into the green but he has plenty of work to just make bogey.

Koepka steps up from the fairway and hits a beautiful iron in close. He’ll have a very makeable birdie.

That could well be that...

Marvellous from Block

McIlroy -2 (69), Block +1 (71)

It’s rare that McIlroy is overshadowed in a pairing but it’s happening now courtesy of Michael Block. The club pro flies it way into the crowd on the last hole but produces a miraculous scramble to make a par and finish his round one over par and in a tie for 15th. That feat will earn him an invite back to next year’s tournament.

McIlroy taps in for his par - a ‘what could have been’ round in another ‘what could have been’ tournament for Rory.

Oh, Viktor...

Koepka -9 (15), Hovland -8 (15)

I don’t believe it - the same bunker as Conners yesterday and Hovland produces the exact same shot. It doesn’t get up over the lip and it wedges in between the sand and the lip. He’ll get a free drop but there’s no guarantee he’ll even make bogey from there - Conners made double bogey yesterday, remember.

Penultimate hole for Scheffler

Scheffler -6 (16)

You have to think Scheffler needs at least one birdie from his last two holes and that shot into 17th is hardly his best. A long-range putt coming up for the American.

Hovland in trouble off the tee

Koepka -9 (15), Hovland -8 (15)

Hovland steps up first...and it’s right. How right? Into the bunker is the answer. That is the same one Conners found himself in yesterday.

Koepka is in the rough after his leaks right as well but you’d have to say that advantage lies with the leader after those shots.

Missed chance for Scheffler

Scheffler -6 (16), Rose -2 (16)

The world number two is running out of holes to get up towards Koepka and he has a good look at 16 but it goes by. Two holes remaining for him to find something magical.

A pair of pars for Koepka and Hovland

Koepka -9 (15), Hovland -8 (15)

Koepka steps up first with his effort and it’s a great lag putt up to the hole and he taps in for a birdie. Hovland’s effort, along a similar line, runs out of steam and falls away on the right side. A par for him too.

Three holes remaining.
