The Rock, John Cena, The Undertaker and many more starred at the biggest WWE show of the year
The biggest wrestling show of the year has come and gone: WWE’s two-night extravaganza, WrestleMania.
WrestleMania 40 played out at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday and Sunday, and the card was stacked.
The main event of night one saw Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson competing fully in WWE for the first time in 11 years, as he teamed with his ‘cousin’ Roman Reigns to beat Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Due to The Rock and Reigns’s victory, the latter’s Universal Championship defence against Rhodes – the main event of night two – was ‘anything goes’, meaning plenty of interferences.
And the most notable interferences came from WWE legends John Cena and The Undertaker, who thwarted The Rock and enabled Rhodes to beat Reigns – marking the end a four-year title reign.

WrestleMania 40 LIVE – Night One: Gunther vs Sami Zayn
Zayn is building some momentum here. Lots of punches, then a suplex. And another suplex. But Gunther with a huge clothesline! The referee counts: 1, 2... Zayn kicks out!
Zayn stands at strikes Gunther repeatedly, before hitting a Tornado DDT off the ring ropes. Gunther pops back up and tries a chokehold, but Zayn counters with a backdrop...
Or a backdrop attempt, rather, because Gunther reverses and gets a rear naked choke locked in. He drags Zayn to the mat with it.
Zayn stands, carrying Gunther’s weight, until the champion hops off Zayn’s back and lands another German suplex.
Gunther runs at Zayn in the corner, but the Canadian catches the Austrian and throws him into the ring post. Zayn looks to build momentum, but Gunther hits a big dropkick then a powerbomb!
Zayn kicks out...

Zayn skips around the ring, evading Gunther early on. Eventually Zayn engages, slapping Gunter multiple times and backing him into the corner.
Zayn then leaps at Gunther, who catches the Canadian and reverses, throwing him with a German suplex. Big uppercut by Gunther now.
“Let’s go Gunther,” and “Let’s go Sami,” are the duelling chants at Lincoln Financial Field. Gunther lays Zayn across the ring post and stretches out his challenger.
In the front row, Zayn’s wife tries to encourage him. Gunther is kicking and slapping him about. Zayn fires back, as each man chops the other’s chest.
Zayn then runs across the ring and hurls himself at Gunther, flooring the champion.

Next up, Sami Zayn challenges the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, Gunther.
Zayn is out first. Before he makes his entrance, we see him backstage with his wife and young son, then with recent ally Chad Gable, then longtime friend Kevin Owens.
Gunther follows, looking very serious.

“We want Jade,” is the chant in Lincoln Financial Field, but Belair is getting double-teamed by Kai and Asuka in the opposite corner.
But Belair rolls cleverly between Kai and Asuka, before diving at Cargill and tagging her in!
Cargill with a chokeslam to Asuka. She deals with Kai, too. Sane jumps off the ring post, but Cargill catches her and hits a backbreaker across her knee.
A sort of piledriver variation from Cargill on Kai now, but Asuka and Sane break up the pinfall! Naomi and Belair incapacitate those two, and Cargill is left alone with Kai...
Cargill hoists up Kai, marches her around the ring, then slams her down face-first! 1, 2, 3 – Belair, Cargill and Naomi win!
WrestleMania 40 LIVE – Night One: Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi vs Damage CTRL
Asuka and Naomi kick things off. Sane soon tags in for Asuka, and Naomi beats her up in the corner.
Asuka sneakily helps her teammate, and Kai joins in, kicking Naomi off the ring post. Sane now leaps off that ring post with an elbow drop on Naomi outside the ring!
Sane throws Naomi back in the ring and is replaced by Asuka, who takes control. Naomi is a long way from her teammates...
But she gets there eventually, tagging in Belair, who is dealing with all three of her side’s opponents.
The crowd wants Cargill to be tagged in, but Kai stops Belair at the last moment.

Next up, Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Naomi face Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane).
Damage CTRL are out first, followed by a visually impressive light show for Belair, Cargill and Naomi.
WrestleMania 40 LIVE – Night One: Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso
Jey goes to kick Jimmy, who is on his knees, but Jimmy begs him not to... and Jey hesitates.
“I’m sorry for everything, I’m sorry,” Jimmy says. He extends his hand to Jey, who is crouching in front of him.
Jey takes his hand and lifts Jimmy to his feet, but Jimmy with a kick out of nowhere! Then a splash from the top rope! But Jey kicks out...
Jey stands, Jimmy charges at him... but Jey counters with a spear, then a splash of his own!
1, 2, 3! Jey pins Jimmy!
WrestleMania 40 LIVE – Night One: Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso
More kicks from Jimmy, then a slap. Again he mocks the crowd, to the sound of “Jimmy sucks” chants...
Jimmy climbs the ring post and launches himself at Jey, who counters! The twins brawl in the middle of the ring, smiling at each other between punches.
Now the twins trade kicks, which become increasingly acrobatic. Both brothers are left floored, and the crowd applauds.
The Usos stand and go back and forth with more kicks. Jey beckons his brother on, and Jimmy obliges with yet more kicks. Jey responds in kind each time.
The pace of the match has slowed somewhat.

Jey launches himself out of the ring and at Jimmy, before the evil twin can even make it all the way down the ramp!
Jey beats up Jimmy, marching him around outside the ring, before rolling him into the squared circle. The bell finally sounds.
Jey throws Jimmy out of the ring and flies between the top and middle rope, crashing into Jimmy. This match is already being fought at a fast pace. Jey covers Jimmy, who kicks out at 2.
Jimmy fights back and taunts the crowd. “Too easy,” he says, as Jey tries to make it back to his feet. Instead, Jimmy kicks him square in the face and floors him. And again.

Next up, it’s brother vs brother: Jey Uso vs Jimmy Uso. This has been a dream match for the twins since they were children.
Another celebrity appearance now, as rapper Lil Wayne emerges to perform during Jey Uso’s entrance!
Jimmy Uso follows, to the sound of boos. He’s very much the bad guy here, while Jey is the fan favourite.
