Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

France carry a huge expectation to win big in Group C and they kick off their World Cup campaign against Australia.

Les Bleus are on a mission since losing the Euro 2016 on home soil to Portugal, but Didier Deschamps squad is expected to breeze through their group against Peru, Denmark and the Socceroos. With all four teams looking rich in talent, France needs to be extra wary if they intend to qualify to the final 16. France right-back Djibril Sidibe is still suffering from a knee injury, so it looks like Benjamin Pavard is set to start in his place.

Australia could drop Mile Jedinak but head coach Bert van Marwijk might play Massimo Luongo in central midfield.

Both teams are looking strong, but France will have to battle it out for a win.

What time is kick-off?

France vs Australia kicks off at 11am BST.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be shown on the BBC.

Odds

France: 1/4

Australia: 9/1

Draw: 11/2

Prediction

France 3-1 Australia.

France have a real chance of winning this game and their group if they keep it together. But they will have to fight for it as no doubt Australia will bring everything they have to the table.

But who do you think will win? Let us know by voting above.

22 min: Dembele appears to have been taken out but, to the bewilderment of French supporters, no free-kick given.

Australia are still growing in confidence here with Aziz Behich having some joy down the left hand side.

25 min: We're over half way through this first half and despite the positive start from France, underdogs Australia look comfortable.

Very comfortable.

Nathan Jacobs16 June 2018 11:27

27 min: And they have another free kick, mid-way into France's defensive half. Mooy poised over it once more.

Nathan Jacobs16 June 2018 11:27

28 min: Another testing cross but this time Lloris comes out and claims it for himself.

Nathan Jacobs16 June 2018 11:29

29 min: A strong tackle from Sainsbury has just burst the ball.

Mark Lawrenson sums it up in commentary, scathingly adding: 'You don't get much for 49.99 these days.'

What footballs are you buying, Mark?

32 min: The game itself has hit a bit of a lull and these French stars are not matching up to their big billing just yet.

As I say that, Hernandez has a bit of space on the left hand side and his cross-shot goes out for a France corner.

35 min: France with a couple of minutes of pedestrian passing. Stadium's intensity dropping.

Nathan Jacobs16 June 2018 11:36

39 min: If you're just joining us on this live feed and were expecting to see a French onslaught, think again.

Australia aren't giving their opponents a moments peace and French boss Didier Deschamps will have a strong word or two at half-time.

Nathan Jacobs16 June 2018 11:39

40 min: More strong words from Lawrenson who roundly mocks Lucas Hernandez for his dramatic fall.

'A dislocated shoelace, maybe?'

Nathan Jacobs16 June 2018 11:40

43 min: I don't think Mark Lawrenson is impressed, here.

'Can we give minus ratings?'

To be fair, he's got a point.

We're minutes from half time, France have been slow, wasteful and unimaginative and the best moment of the game has fallen Australia's way.
