England are through to the quarter-finals of World Cup 2018 after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Colombia.

Harry Kane had put England into the lead shortly after half-time from the penalty spot after the striker was fouled by defender Carlos Sanchez, with the captain brushing himself down to score his sixth goal of the tournament to remain top goalscorer.

But Colombia displayed their incredible resilience to score in the 93rd minute through a well-executed header through defender Yelly Mina, sending the game to extra-time with the scores locked at 1-1.

With no splitting the teams after 30 additional minutes, the game headed to penalties with England slipping behind when Jordan Henderson's effort was saved. However, Mateus Uribe rattled his effort off the crossbar before goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved from Carlos Bacca, setting up Eric Dier to score the match-winning penalty and send England through to a quarter-final against Sweden. Here's how the action unfolded.

What time is it?

The game kicks off at 7pm BST in Moscow.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be shown live on ITV and the ITV Hub, with coverage starting from 6.15pm BST.

Odds:

Colombia: 3/1

England: 23/20

Draw after 90 minutes: 2/1

Prediction:

Colombia 1-1 England (England win on penalties). It’s pretty unlikely, because England don’t win shootouts, but Germany don’t go out at the group stage so who knows?

From penalty, to controversy, to a Harry Kane goal...

Harry Kane is fouled by Carlos Sanchez, who gets booked...

...but Jordan Henderson is also given a yellow card as tempers flare...

...Kane keeps his composure though to smash the ball down the middle...

...and roar with delight after his sixth goal in the World Cup!

66 mins: Alli felled by Barrios - who is on a yellow card. Just on the halfway line, but England will fire it long into the area. Whether you are a fan of England, Colombia or a neutral, the amount of fouls and arguing with the referee in this game is disappointing to see

69 mins: Jesse Lingard picks up a yellow card after doing well to win the ball back, but then loses it and fouls Sanchez in retaliation

72 mins: England managing to retain possession for the most part as the clock ticks down. Colombia have offered little but you feel as though they will at least have one chance. The referee having to give every foul now as tempers flare.

England, meanwhile, have a corner.

Captain, Leader, Legend? A couple more goals and Harry Kane will be well on his way

77 mins: Colombia, as expected, are beginning to string some passes together and have some sustained pressure on the England goal. England break and Lingard is down in the penalty area, referee waives his appeal away, and Colombia attack again. End to end stuff.

79 mins: Sanchez OFF Uribe ON for Colombia

81 mins: Dele OFF, Dier ON Gareth Southgate looking to tighten up that midfield

Molly Hudson3 July 2018 20:42

82 mins: Cuadrado gifted with a perfect opportunity as Walker loses the ball inside his own half. Luckily for England, Cuadrado blasted his effort high and wide

83 mins: It's time for England to draw some fouls, and Harry Kane does just that. His free kick in the middle of the Colombian half finds Maguire, who can't head back across goal for his teammates
