Haji Wright sent Coventry into the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley after the USA international’s 100th-minute winner secured a 3-2 win to stun Wolves.

In a thrilling quarter-final, the Sky Blues appeared to have squandered their chance at Molineux, having led 1-0 and dominated for large spells, when the Premier League side came from behind to lead 2-1 late thanks to Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno’s goals.

But Ellis Simms’ second goal of the game in the 97th minute appeared to secure extra-time, but Mark Robbins’ side quickly hit their opponents with another fine goal as Wright’s curler three minutes later sent the Championship side into the final four for the first time since 1987.

Coventry will now look forward to Sunday’s semi-final draw before switching focus back to the Championship and their bid for a play-off place.

Gary O’Neil says Wolves should not be getting carried away about potentially winning the FA Cup this season and must focus on beating Coventry first.

“None of my attention is on winning it, it’s on beating Coventry tomorrow,” O’Neil said.

“It’s tough. You need a lot to go your way. This will be a huge test and we need to get through it.

“I’m desperate to give the fans more enjoyable moments. We will need the fans to help, especially when you have players missing.”

Can underdogs Coventry tame Wolves?

The lowest-ranked side left in the competition travel to Gary O’Neil’s impressive Wolves on Saturday lunchtime looking to cause an upset. Coventry sit eighth in the Championship and are hoping to return to Wembley, where they suffered an agonising play-off final defeat to Luton at the end of last season. The Sky Blues are dreaming of a first FA Cup semi-final since they went on to win it 1987, while Wolves are determined to reach the last four for the first time since 2019.

Good afternoon

One of Wolves or Coventry will be heading to Wembley this season as the midlands rivals meet in the FA Cup quarter-finals this afternoon.

Wolves have enjoyed an excellent campaign so far in the Premier League, defying expectations in manager Gary O’Neil’s first season in charge. The cherry on the cake would be a cup run, as four-time FA Cup winners Wolves look to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2019 - where they lost to Watford in extra time.

Coventry are the last remaining Championship side in the FA Cup, with Mark Robins’ side sitting eighth in the table and one point outside the play-off spots. The Sky Blues ended Maidstone United’s dream run in the previous round and are bidding to their first FA Cup semi-final since 1987. If they do so, they would make a swift return to Wembley after losing the Championship play-off final to Luton Town last May.
