Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace
A game full to the brim with drama has come to an end after a breathless second half, and the points have been shared. Neither side will be overly happy with that result, given how the course of the game played out. The first half was fairly even, with both sides having a couple of chances early on. Palace had the best chance of the first half in the 33rd minute when Mateta thought he had scored from close range, only for his shot to be blocked by his own teammate, Chalobah! The scoreline read 0-0 at the break, and the start of the second half carried on like the first. Wolves had a big chance saved by Henderson as he took Sarabia’s shot square in the face, and 10 minutes after that, Wolves lived to regret the miss. There was a defensive mixup in the box, which allowed Chalobah a free shot at an empty net, which he gladly took to put Palace 1-0 up. Palace continued to miss chance after chance, right after going ahead, and then they paid the price for it in the 67th minute. Chalobah, the first goalscorer, missed a diagonal ball to Cunha, who played a pass into Strand Larsen, and he finished underneath Henderson to make the game level. Only five minutes after the equaliser, Wolves went ahead! Guedes unselfishly teed up Gomes to place his shot into the bottom right corner of Henderson’s goal, making it 2-1 to Wolves. The goals weren’t done there, however, and Palace finally took another of their many chances in the 77th minute. Munoz rose highest from a corner to flick his header towards the back post. Guehi arrived just in time and tapped in the finish to draw the game level again! There was one more piece of drama in the 97th minute when Mateta thought he had won it for Palace, only for the goal to be disallowed for a foul on Sa, committed by Munoz. Palace will rue their missed chances as they finish with 2.89 xG, highlighting just how high quality their opportunities were. Wolves finish the game on 1.54 xG, but they will be disappointed with how easily they let their lead slip. Thank you for joining this live text commentary, goodbye!
