Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Championship Millwall are through to the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon 1-0.

The Lions came close to adding to the 1-0 advantage given to them by Wallace's early goal on a number of occasions in the second half but failed to beat Dons goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a second time.

Millwall join Watford and Brighton in Monday night's quarter-final draw.

Newport 0-0 Manchester City

49 minutes

Newport have made a good start to the second half. Amond plays the ball over the top for Matt, who makes himself a nuisance for the City defence. A cross comes in from the right but City do enough to get the ball clear.

Guardiola looks contemplative and slightly forlorn. He doesn't appear to be enjoying this.

GOAL! Newport 0-1 Manchester City (Sane)

51 minutes

Guardiola has perked up now! Jesus and Sane link up on the left and the German hits a powerful shot at goal. Day appears to have made the save, but it hits the goalkeeper in the face and rolls across the line. City lead and you'd expect them to go on and win comfortably now.

Newport 0-1 Manchester City

54 minutes

Day has been receiving some treatment since the goal to try and stop the bleeding from his nose. That's how much power Sane got on that shot.

Newport 0-1 Manchester City

55 minutes

Danilo lines up a shot from distance and strikes it well on his left foot. Day has to get down to his left quickly and gets a strong hand to it, palming it behind for a corner.

Newport 0-1 Manchester City

57 minutes

Danilo comes close again. He plays a one-two with Jesus and looks to convert from a tight angle. Day gets a slight touch on it to divert it onto the post. City are in complete control now, though, and a second goal looks inevitable.

Newport 0-1 Manchester City

60 minutes

Mahrez collects the ball on the right, just outside the box, and tries to beat Butler with a succession of step overs. The left back does well, though, and blocks Mahrez's shot.

Newport make their first change: Josh Sheehan replaces Tyreeq Bakinson.

Newport 0-1 Manchester City

66 minutes

City have had over 80% of the possession in the second half and that's only likely to increase as the game progresses. Newport are tiring, but there's no shame in that. Guardiola's side do this to most Premier League opposition.

Newport 0-1 Manchester City

67 minutes

Very nearly a howler from Ederson, normally so composed with the ball at his feet. Stones plays the ball back to the Brazilian and he attempts a first time pass. It bobbles just before he connects, though, and he very nearly picks out Newport's Matt. Fortunately, Ederson corrects his own error and manages to clear.
