West Ham vs Lyon LIVE: Europa League result and final score as Ndombele cancels out Bowen’s opener
West Ham 1-1 Lyon: Follow for reaction from the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie
Follow for live reaction after West Ham held Lyon to a 1-1 draw after playing the whole second half with 10 men following Aaron Cresswell’s red card to keep their Europa League quarter-final tie in the balance.
Cresswell was shown a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity after he brought down Moussa Dembele on the stroke of half-time.
The dismissal lifted the Hammers and the hosts took the lead as Jarrod Bowen pounced on a loose touch from Jerome Boateng to fire West Ham in front.
But Tottenham Hotspur loanee Tanguy Ndombele silenced the London Stadium as he bundled in an equaliser midway through the second half.
It means West Ham’s hopes of progressing to the semi-final will come down to next week’s second leg in France, with Barcelona potentially waiting in the last four.

36 mins: Another corner for the Hammers sees Pablo Fornals swing the ball into the middle of the box from the opposite side. Moussa Dembele leaps highest and powerfully heads the ball away.
Jerome Boateng goes down off the ball on the edge of his own area after Fornals wins the ball. West Ham have possession in a dangerous area but the referee stops the game so that Boateng can receive some treatment.
David Moyes is not happy about that at all.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
33 mins: Chance! West Ham win a corner that Jarrod Bowen jogs over to take. He knocks it short just into the box where Declan Rice pops up and hits a left-footed shot towards the far bottom corner. There isn’t much pace on the effort and Anthony Lopes dives across to smother it.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
30 mins: Half an hour played at the London Stadium and David Moyes will be relatively happy. West Ham have kept Lyon relatively quiet and are causing a few problems themselves.
The best option seems to be that diagonal pass out to Benrahma - usually played by Fornals. Benrahma brings the ball under control and flicks a cross into the box. Antonio and Bowen are waiting in the middle but Lukeba gets there first and clears the danger.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
27 mins: West Ham seem content to let Lyon have possession as their best chances have both come from counter-attacking play. Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice have a breakdown in communication though and both fail to close down Tanguy Ndombele who rattles a shot from range and almost finds the target but the ball curls just wide of the left-hand post.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
24 mins: Fornals flicks the ball out wide to Benrahma on the left wing who attempts to take on Gusto and loses the ball. The Lyon right-back plays a lovely one-two on his way down the right side and finds himself as the furthest forward for Lyon. He passes it back into midfield and Lyon slow down the tempo but keeping the ball.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
21 mins: Lucas Paqueta is the biggest threat to West Ham so far. He finds some space between the defence and midfield picks up the ball before threading a pass through the lines for Moussa Dembele. Alphonse Areola is quickly off his line to smash the ball away.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
18 mins: West Ham are starting to come alive after a sleepy start. They clear their lines after a Lyon attack and boot the ball up to Antonio. He flicks it on for Pablo Fornals who collects the ball and drives through the middle of the pitch. Antonio sprints up alongside him and stays onside as the pass plays him into the right side of the box. He shoots and Castello Lukeba is there to turn it wide.
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
15 mins: West Ham work the ball nicely down the right side before chipping it across the front edge of the box. Tomas Soucek is up there to recover the ball but he sticks out a high foot and brings down Romain Faivre just outside the Lyon box.
Save! That’s more like it from the Hammers. They regain possession inside their own half after the Lyon free kick and flick it over the top to Said Benrahma. His first touch is quality which allows him space to run into the left side of the box. Michail Antonio is up with him but he goes it alone and fires a shot at goal that Anthony Lopes does well to keep out at the near post!
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
12 mins: Chance! Lyon have been upping the pressure on the West Ham defence and a lovely underlapping run from Lucas Paqueta sees him fed the ball by Emerson on the left. Paqueta runs to the byline and pulls the ball back into the six-yard box where Dembele squeezes past Declan Rice and pokes the ball wide of goal!
West Ham 0 - 0 Lyon
9 mins: West Ham give the ball away in the middle of the pitch and kick start a Lyon counter-attack. Moussa Dembele looks to shimmy his way in between the two centre-backs with a driving run towards the box but Said Benrahma sprints back and nicks the ball off the Lyon captain before he can shoot.
