Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manchester United look set for a busy end to the window with Romelu Lukaku and perhaps Paul Pogba still heading for the exit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears happy to ditch the Belgian and Juventus may have edged ahead of Inter Milan in the race to sign him.

Paulo Dybala in return, as well as Inter’s stubborness to raise their offer closer to United’s asking price, could send Lukaku to Turin in a sensational swap move.

Meanwhile, Gareth Bale’s move to China has collapsed and he is too “traumatised” to travel to Germany for the Audi Cup.

Though Josh Toshack has criticised the Welsh forward for his behaviour since moving to Spain.

“Come out Gareth, do an interview, speak yourself,” the 70-year-old told BBC Radio 5 Live. “You’ve been here six or seven years now. You don’t speak the language. That’s an insult to the people that you’re working for.

“It’s not gone down well at all here in Spain, and it saddens me.

“He’s been important in Real Madrid. It’s just a great pity that he hasn’t engaged himself a little bit more with the country that he’s living in, with the supporters that are there every week.

“Gareth, come on. Take a little bit of time out and learn the language.”

Everton want to sign Southampton star Mario Lemina.

After losing Idrissa Gueye to PSG, the Toffees are short in midfield.

Marco Silva could look to bring in Fikayo Tomori as well, claim Sky Sports, with Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea after his loan move.

Gareth Bale has uploaded a post on Instagram that shows him modelling Real Madrid's new kit, just days after a proposed move to China fell through.

The Welshman was expected to join Jiangsu Suning on a three-year deal worth a reported £1million a week after Real boss Zinedine Zidane made it clear the forward was not part of his plans.

But it emerged on Sunday that the switch was off and Bale is now likely to stay at the Bernabeu.

The 30-year-old appeared to show his commitment to the Spanish giants by sharing a video and a picture of him wearing the club's green third strip for the new campaign on social media.

Moise Kean to Everton is a done deal according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italy striker will undergo a medical tomorrow and sign for €40m (£36m).

The 19-year-old scored six goals in 13 Serie A games last season.

Juventus do NOT have a buy-back clause for Moise Kean, according to reports.

The Italy striker is moving to Goodison for £36m.

But despite initial assumptions, it seems as if it will be merely an option to match a rival bid if Juve want to explore bringing the 19-year-old back to Turin in the future.

James Rodriguez could still leave Real Madrid.

That's because the Colombian has been omitted from the team photo.

Los Blancos are still open to selling, despite Marco Asensio's injury, but want €42m.

Napoli and Atletico Madrid have been strongly linked all summer.

Juventus are willing to offer £10m plus Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala for Romelu Lukaku.

The Sun believe the Old Lady are preparing a player-plus-cash deal for Manchester United.

The main sticking point could be Dybala's reluctance to leave and even if he does, he wants parity with the top earners at Old Trafford.

Nicolas Pepe has reportedly signed his Arsenal contract, according to Sky Sport Italia's Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have a new record signing it seems.

No official word yet, but the Ivorian will pen a five-year deal after Lille agreed on a £72m deal.

Malaga have signed Shinji Okazaki from Leicester on a free transfer.

The Japanese forward ends a four-year spell with the Foxes, having played a key role in the Premier League triumph.

The 33-year-old will now star in La Liga with the Andalusians and will be presented at La Rosaleda tomorrow.

Man United have a total agreement with Bruno Fernandes, report Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Sporting star could remain at the club until the Supertaca, at the request of the Portuguese giants.

Sporting face Benfica on Sunday and the player will then move to Old Trafford following a prolific season in the capital.
