Summer transfer window: Likely deals and biggest rumours

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The transfer window is well and truly open and the rumour mill is spinning ever faster with some of world football's biggest names set for summer moves.

Alexis Sanchez, Kylian Mbappe, Alvaro Morata and Alexandre Lacazette are just a handful of big-name players tipped for a move this summer, with the likes of Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte all eager to bolster their squads ahead of the new season.

Rather impressively, a number of clubs have already set about their business early. Manchester City are the summer’s early pace setters, having already signed both Bernardo Silva and Ederson, while Mohamed Salah recently joined Liverpool in a £34.3m move from Roma.

Everton are the other big spenders so far in the window, signing Michael Keane for a club-record £30m and Sandro Ramirez to add to Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for £30m and Ajax’s Davy Klaassen for £23.6m.

We will have all the latest news and reports throughout the day right here so don't touch that dial.

Manchester United will make a renewed, final push for Álvaro Morata this week as Jose Mourinho's frustration at a lack of signings begins to bubble over.

The Spanish forward has been United's top attacking target since Antoine Griezmann decided to remain with Atletico, and has his mind set on moving to Old Trafford.

But Real Madrid are holding firm over a €90m (£72m) fee, frustrating United's efforts to have their squad complete by the beginning of pre-season.

Alexandre Lacazette was at Arsenal's training ground yesterday to undergo medical tests and finalise his move to the Premier League.

The France international will seal his move for a club-record transfer fee that could top out at £52m.

Tests results from London Colney will dictate whether the club feels Lacazette is fit enough to go on Arsenal's pre-season tour or Asia and Oceania, and an announcement on the 26-year-old striker's transfer could happen in the next 24 hours.

Arsenal have apparently made a £90million bid for Sporting Lisbon duo William Carvalho and Gelson Martins.

The Gunners are set to announce the club record capture of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon today but aren't about to stop there according to reports in Portugal.

They say that Arsene Wenger saw an £80m offer rebuffed and has gone back with an improved bid.

Midfielder Carvalho has long been on the club's radar while winger Martins was a target for Liverpool before they moved for Mohamed Salah.

Leicester negotiate with Ulloa over contract extension

Leonardo Ulloa might stay at Leicester after all, after he has been in talks with Leicester over a new contract, Daily Mail reports.

The 30-year-old Ulloa fell out of favour with Claudio Ranieri, and threatened to go on strike in January after his transfer to Sunderland was blocked by Claudio Ranieri.

The situation has come back to normal since Craig Shakespeare took over at the King Power Stadium, and Ulloa now considers extending his stay at Leicester.

A transfer away is still possible, although the player has been back with the squad for pre-season training.
