From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Independent revealed on Friday that United are considering a move for Alex Sandro after favouring the Juventus left-back over Tottenham’s Danny Rose, with the club unwilling to do business with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy after growing frustrated with negotiation over Eric Dier in the summer.
The move for Sandro could well lead to Manchester City moving for Rose, although their priority remains trying to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January window even though he is out of contract and available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
United are also keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl, although the midfielder is not considered a priority signing.
Arsenal continue to be linked with midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, who has been left out of the Sevilla side that will take on Real Madrid this weekend as his future remains up in the air, but the Gunners are yet to open contract renewal talks with Jack Wilshere – who like Sanchez is out of contract at the end of the season.
Finally, Thibaut Courtois has opened the door to a Chelsea exit after admitting that he will consider his future at the end of the season, with a move back to Spain currently among his options due to family reasons.

Despite Luke Shaw’s impressive performance against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League this week, Manchester United have offered the left-back’s services to a host of Premier League clubs, according to the Daily Record.
They report that Jose Mourinho wants to raise funds for a January signing, with our own Miguel Delaney reporting that that signing could be Juventus’ Alex Sandro.
Real Madrid are gearing up for their annual attempt at poaching a top Premier League goalkeeper, although Manchester United fans rejoice that it is not David De Gea.
The Daily Mail are reporting that the European Champions will instead target Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois. The goalkeeper is in discussions over a new deal but Real could well intervene.
Sam Allardyce is refusing to rule out a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund after reports emerged that Everton were ready to launch a £60m bid for him in January.
Everton are still yet to replace Romelu Lukaku after losing him in the previous transfer window and are in desperate need of goals for their relegation battle.
“It's the hardest thing to recruit: a centre-forward who scores goals," he said. “Is he the right type of centre-forward for you? It's the most expensive area of the pitch. We have a number of players here with good goalscoring records who haven't perhaps settled.
“It's my opinion that my first signing has to be the right signing for Everton and my future. If you make bad signings, you get the sack. If you make good signings, you become a better manager.”
Asked if Aubameyang was the player he wanted, he replied: “I'm not telling you.”
Romelu Lukaku could have ended up a West Ham player, rather than a Manchester United one – or at least an Everton one – according to co-owner David Sullivan, when Sam Allardyce was manager.
Sullivan tells the Guardian how Chelsea offered Lukaku to West Ham for £10m but Allardyce would only take him on loan and wouldn’t pay that much for him.
“I asked Sam if he fancied Lukaku,” he said. “Sam said he’d take him on loan but he wouldn’t buy him for that. Again I’ve supported the manager.”
Carlo Ancelotti is moving back to London, according to The Sun, putting Premier League clubs on alert that he will be returning to the league.
The Italian previously spent two seasons at Chelsea where he won the double in his first season before being handed the sack and has been out of work since being fired as Bayern Munich manager earlier this season.
