Tottenham are closing in on an agreed season-long loan despite United being in a better position to meet Bale’s significant wage demands of £600,000 per week, which he currently receives from Real Madrid.
United have also lost the race with Spurs for left-back Reguilon, and while they continue to hunt Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, the reality is Sancho may be out of their price range.
One possible arrival that has emerged though is Atalanta’s 18-year-old winger Amad Traore, who caught the eye during last season’s Serie A campaign.

FORMER UNITED STRIKER POINTS TO CENTRE-BACK PROBLEM
Ex-United striker Andy Cole has suggested his former club may have a problem with regards to strengthening their defence.
The Red Devils have been linked with several centre-backs throughout the summer as they look to find an adequate partner for Harry Maguire.
But there are still defenders in the squad - like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones - who have not yet been offloaded.
“Manchester United are a team that look to add players in every season," Cole told the Daily Star.
“We keep talking about a centre-back, but United have so many centre-backs at the moment I’m not sure how many more than can actually buy.
“Especially nowadays, centre-backs seem to be more expensive than centre-forwards so it’s a challenge to strengthen any more there. It’ll be interesting to see what they do there.
“Jadon Sancho, if that deal comes off, it would be a coup, but if that deal doesn’t come off then I’ve got no doubts they’ll have their eye on whoever else they feel could make their team stronger.”
UNITED STANCE ON BALE & REGUILON
Manchester United are not expected to move for Gareth Bale as the Real Madrid man edges closer to a Spurs return.
That is according to the MEN, who claim United had no intention of buying the Welshman but considered a potential loan.
Tottenham are also set to sign Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon, another player linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
But the 23-year-old was reportedly never a priority, and United are happy with their options in the position.
