Arsenal have confirmed that right-back Mathieu Debuchy has left the club to join Bordeuax on loan for the rest of the season, as he seeks regular football with Euro 2016 on the horizon.

Debuchy, 30, has made just seven appearances for Arsenal this season and played only twice in the Premier League, having lost his place at right back to the Spanish teenager Hector Bellerin.

Premier League rivals Manchester United reportedly made an approach for the player before Borrdeuax, but it was rejected by Arsenal.

An Arsenal statement read: "A France international, Debuchy returns to his homeland for the opportunity of regular football ahead of Euro 2016 this summer.

"Everyone at Arsenal wishes Mathieu well for his time with the Girondins."

The Gunners have only made one new signing in this transfer window, bringing in Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel for a reported £7.4m.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said it is "99 per cent" certain they will sign no new players tonight - but did sneakily make this plea to Lionel Messi.
