Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that it is "99 per cent" likely that the Gunners will not be doing any deadline day deals today but did sneakily add that if Barcelona's Lionel Messi knocks at his door tonight, he will happily make him an offer.
Ahead of the Gunners Premier League fixture against Southampton tomorrow night, Wenger said that there is little doubt he will add to his ranks before 11pm tonight, when the window slams shut.
Asked if he was all done, he said: "100 per cent is difficult to say, but 99 per cent sure, yes.
"A miracle can always happen, someone can knock on your door and if [Lionel] Messi knocks on my door at 10 to six tonight, I will not say 'please go back to Barcelona!'"
But will Messi, the best player in the world, knock on his door. The odds are not looking good for Wenger.
Only Mohamed Elneny, a £7.4m but from FC Basle, joined the Gunners this month.
