The transfer deadline is fast approaching - clubs have to wrap up all their deals by 11pm BST on Friday 1 September, meaning today and tomorrow will be chaotic and potentially exciting with a host of switches still pending.

Among the biggest clubs, Man City could be set to sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea, while the latter could offload Callum Hudson-Odoi after his return from loan. Manchester United, meanwhile, are still looking for at least two more additions, with rivals Liverpool hoping to land another midfielder in Ryan Gravenberch, currently at Bayern Munich.

Brighton look set to sign Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona, while several other Premier League teams could also conclude deals late on before the window shuts. Follow all the latest news and transfer rumour updates below; get all the latest football betting sites offers here.

Chelsea hungry for more?

The imminent signing of Cole Palmer looked likely to be Chelsea’s last incoming transfer of the window but perhaps not. According to reports in Brazil’s UOL, the west London club have submitted a €25m bid for 17-year-old Gabriel Moscardo.

The deal would reportedly see the young midfielder remain with Corinthians into next year.

While Liverpool continue to work on further reinforcements in central midfield, they are happy for a departure in central defence, with Nat Phillips departing Merseyside to join Celtic on loan until January.

Luton had been rumoured as another interested club but that has since been denied by boss Rob Edwards.

Dean Henderson set for Sam Johnstone battle after Crystal Palace move

Dean Henderson will have to fight for a place at Crystal Palace ahead of a £15m move from Manchester United. The signing is seen as one for depth and the future of the squad at Selhurst Park.

The intention is to retain Sam Johnstone as the Eagles No 1 goalkeeper, having started all four of Palace’s games this season.

Johnstone has been recalled to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for games against Ukraine and Scotland. The decision from Southgate reflects his recent form at Palace and Roy Hodgson is hugely content with the 30-year-old.

Palhinha agrees personal terms with Bayern Munich

Bayern just can’t get enough of the Premier League this transfer window can they? After their successful acquisition of Harry Kane earlier in the window, the German giants appear to have their eyes set on Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.

According to Florian Plettenberg, terms on a five-year deal have already been agreed with the player with Thomas Tuchel’s hoping to agree a deal of between €50-60m for the Portuguese international.

Marco Silva confirmed to media that Palhinha trained with the Fulham squad today but it appears it is his desire to leave the club. Certainly one to monitor.

Wolves eye up Nunes replacement

With Mattheus Nunes expected to complete a £47m deal to join Premier League champions, Manchester City, Wolves may well have to dip back into the market as they look to bolster their options in the middle of the park.

According to the Evening Standard, that man could be Fulham’s Harrison Reed with Wolves having made an initial approach about bringing the 28-year-old to the Midlands club. Reed has started two of Fulham’s three league games so far this season but could be allowed to leave if Marco Silva’s side can agree a deal to bring Alex Iwobi to the club from Everton.

Romelu Lukaku, a chessboard and the Jose Mourinho phone call that lured him to Roma

It was, not for the first time in football, a Jose Mourinho call that proved persuasive. The Roma manager last week rang Romelu Lukaku personally to say he was exactly what they were missing.

“We have a good team but we are missing a champion,” Mourinho said. The Portuguese also explained to Lukaku exactly how he would work with Paulo Dybala.

The hope is that the loan move reignites Roma’s faltering start to the season, and Lukaku’s career. Staying at Chelsea, while something that manager Mauricio Pochettino at least toyed with, was never really on. The club want to go in a new direction based on younger players developing in their career and capable of going to higher levels.

After a drawn-out transfer saga, Lukaku finally has his move. Read the latest from Miguel Delaney on how the Belgian ended up reuniting with former boss Mourinho in Rome:
