The January transfer window is open and rumours are swirling around the Premier League and across Europe.

Philippe Coutinho is set to decide between five Premier League clubs battling for his signature as the Brazil star nears an exit from Barcelona and a return to the Premier League. The 29-year-old has struggled since making the move to the Camp Nou and is said to favour a return to England, where he spent five years at Liverpool. Aston Villa are said to be one of those sides involved in the race for the midfielder, according to the Mail, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton also linked.

Newcastle appear to be closing in on their first signing of the window after reportedly agreeing a fee with Atletico Madrid for England international right-back Kieran Trippier. The former Tottenham full-back, who joined the Spanish club in 2019, has been keen to move back to England ever since coming close to joining Manchester United last summer. The BBC report that Newcastle have had a bid of £12 million, plus add-ons, accepted for the 31-year-old in what would be club’s first signing under their new owners.

Elsewhere, Arsenal have reportedly made their first move for in-demand Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport. They say the Gunners have made an opening offer of £58.5m for the 21-year-old, in a deal that would see midfielder Lucas Torreira join the Serie A club on a permanent basis. Arsenal will also listen to offers for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the window, according to Sky Sports, and it could be that Vlahovic replaces the former captain at the club this January.

PSG told Haaland price

Paris Saint-Germain would need to set aside a €300m budget in order to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland in the summer, according to L’Equipe.

Haaland’s release clause will become active in the summer with a number of top clubs competing for his signature.

Despite the striker being available for €70m, his annual salary of €30m plus agents fees would take the overall package beyond the €300m mark if a six-year deal is agreed.

Meanwhile, L’Equipe also report that Manchester United are monitoring PSG striker Muaro Icardi, who is out of contract in 2024 and has been approached by Juventus.

Everton complete Patterson signing from Rangers

In case you missed it yesterday, Everton have completed the signing of Scotland international right-back Nathan Patterson from Rangers on a five-and-a-half year deal.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract until June 2027 and Everton have paid a reported fee of £11 million for the defender, a record for Rangers.

Patterson becomes Everton’s second signing of the window following the arrival of Ukraine international left-back Vitalii Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv. Everton were interested in signing Patterson last summer but were unable to complete the deal.

“I’m over the moon to sign for Everton and looking forward to getting started,” Patterson told Everton’s official website.

“It was an easy choice to sign. This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous. Obviously we aren’t in the place where we want to be right now but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that.”

Conte: Kane ‘totally involved’ in Spurs project

Antonio Conte is impressed with the way Harry Kane has bought into the Italian’s project at Tottenham and says he will be the focal point of any success.

The striker looked set to leave Spurs in the summer after hankering for a move to Manchester City, hinting at his desire during a high-profile interview with Gary Neville and turning up to pre-season training late.

And now Conte has said: “First of all, we are talking about a really good person and a really good man. And I think this is the most important thing.

“Because I knew the situation in the summer and, when Harry decided to stay in Tottenham, I found a player totally involved in this project now.

“I am happy to have him in my team because for sure we are talking about the top player, a top striker in the world, and if we want to win or if we want to think to build something to win, Harry must be a point of start.

“This is normal and he knows very well my opinion, but I repeat I’m very happy to work with him and I think that he has enjoyed the time, what we are building with the team and that is all.”
