Tottenham 2-0 West Ham: Spurs go fourth while the Hammers remain in the bottom three
Tottenham moved into the Premier League’s top four as they returned to form with a 2-0 home win over West Ham that left their London rivals in the bottom three on Sunday.
There was little to separate the sides in a forgettable first half but Spurs stepped up the pace after the interval with goals by Emerson Royal and substitute Son Heung-min.
It was a big win for Tottenham following defeat at Leicester City and a midweek loss away to AC Milan in the Champions League and allowed them to leapfrog Newcastle United in the table.
Right back Emerson marked his 50th Premier League game by opening the scoring in the 56th minute from a Ben Davies pass.
Son, who has struggled for form this season and was left out of the starting lineup by Spurs’ stand-in manager Cristian Stellini, then linked with Harry Kane to double the advantage.
West Ham had started the derby brightly with Jarrod Bowen wasting an early chance but offered little and have now won only once in their last 11 league games with pressure mounting on manager David Moyes.

That 2-0 victory sends Spurs above Newcastle in the Premier League table to occupy fourth spot, albeit having played one game more than the Magpies. West Ham on the other hand remain in the bottom three on 20 points, less than double Tottenham's 42, with only Leeds and Southampton below them in the table.

Emerson Royal's opener came from a marauding run up the right flank from the Tottenham wing-back, a flank which Dejan Kulusevski dominated from minute one. The Sweden winger, still only on loan from Juventus, was a constant threat in that area of the pitch, and had two shots from eight touches in the box, as well as creating big chances with 3 of his 18 final-third passes. Contesting 10 total duels, Kulusevski won five, with three successful tackles and the winning of a free-kick contribution to six times in which he re-took possession for Spurs. Outlet.

A chance-sparse first game gave way to a second which Spurs were eventually able to coast through, made all the more easy by Emerson Royal's well-taken opener 10 minutes into the second half. Chances continued to flow at both ends, with the hosts largely in the ascendancy, with Kane, Kulusevski, and West Ham's Bowen each testing their opposing goalkeepers. Heung-Min Son's introduction saw Spurs step up a gear though, and just four minutes after coming on the South Korean calmly dispatched the sealant on a win which will do wonders for Tottenham's confidence, as they aim to keep pace with the sides around them in the fight for European places.
