Postecoglou 'not going to change' despite Spurs' poor season

Newcastle United won a fifth consecutive game to pile the misery on Tottenham Hotspur as Eddie Howe’s side came from behind to beat their depleted hosts.

Spurs were missing a host of first-time players due to injury or illness but Dominic Solanke gave them an early lead in front of on-looking England manager Thomas Tuchel.

But it was quickly cancelled out by Anthony Gordon, much to the fury of Ange Postecoglou after the ball struck off the arm of Newcastle midfielder Joelinton in the build-up.

Newcastle took control and Alexander Isak continued his red-hot form as he poked in at the back post to score for the seventh Premier League game in a row and give the visitors a deserved lead.

Tottenham improved and were the better team after half-time, as Heung-min Son and James Maddison were called from the bench, but Newcastle held on to climb into fifth place in the Premier League table.

Tottenham remain 11th, with just one win from their last eight, but could drop further by the end of the weekend after suffering a 10th league defeat of the season. Follow all the reaction below

Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle

66 mins: Brandon Austin, who has done really well today, stays down after coming for a high cross. He looks winded, but it’s the last thing Tottenham want to see. Who replaces the third-choice goalkeeper if needed?

65 mins: It’s better from Tottenham, who are having more control now. Newcastle will have chances on the break but Spurs need to take those risks now.

61 mins: Changes for Tottenham. Son, Maddison and Yves Bissouma are all coming on. Werner, Sarr and Bergvall are off.

There are some boos as Bergvall comes off for Maddison. He’s played well, Bergvall.

Meanwhile, Gordon has a new shirt, some toilet roll stuffed up his nostril, and is sent back on for Newcastle.

58 mins: Gordon is left bloodied as he cuts inside Kulusevski and barges into the Tottenham forward’s shoulder.

This is nasty for Gordon. Looks like a burst nose.

57 mins: Newcastle look dangerous from the counter as Bruno plays it wide to Gordon. It’s fed to Tonali, who strikes at Gray. It breaks to Gordon, who blazes over.

Newcastle will have more of those chances, you feel.

55 mins: POST! Tottenham almost equalise! Sarr’s shot from the edge was going wide but Dubravka gets down to save. It breaks to Johnson, who clips the near post from the angle.

This is a good spell for Spurs.

54 mins: Good persistence from Bergvall out on the wing as he tees up Kulusevski. Burn is there to clear at the front post.

50 mins: It’s end-to-end to start the second half. A frantic passage ends in Tonali shooting into a cluster of Tottenham defenders. Before then, Solanke had the chance to turn in the box but was blocked by Botman.

47 mins: Porro has been great for Spurs and puts in another belter of a cross from right back. Solanke challenges for it but clatters into goalkeeper Dubravka, who stays down.

46 mins: Back underway at Tottenham, who have made a change at half-time. Sergio Reguilon is on for Radu Dragusin. That means Tottenham now have no recognised centre-backs. Djed Spence has gone alongside Archie Gray.

Another headache for Spurs and Postecoglou.
