Klopp: Politics mustn't come before football

Mohamed Salah cleverly fashioned one goal and was gifted another as Liverpool claimed a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Salah opened the scoring after 11 minutes when he expertly controlled a pass from Darwin Nunez inside the area, turned and fired a low shot into the corner with his left foot. His second goal five minutes before half-time was a gift from Eric Dier who miscued a header from a kick downfield by Alisson and the Egyptian ran clear and dinked the ball past Hugo Lloris.

The hosts had their moments with Ivan Perisic hitting the woodwork in each half and they could have had a penalty when Ryan Sessegnon was bundled over by Trent Alexander-Arnold. After the break, Spurs raised their game, boosted by Dejan Kulusevski returning from injury off the bench. He had an almost instant impact as he fed Harry Kane who scored in the 70th minute

But Liverpool weathered the storm to claim the win and end a run of two Premier League defeats, leaving them eighth on 19 points after 13 games. Spurs slipped to fourth on 26 from 14.

Relive the action as Liverpool downed Spurs in the Premier League:

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool (Salah, 11’)⚽️

11 mins: Liverpool’s dominance pays off! Mo Salah gives them the lead.

Salah actually starts the move with a run into midfield before sending the ball out to the left side. Robertson again is left bags of space and he chips a pass into the box.

Darwin Nunez controls it with his back to goal then sends it across to Salah who takes a touch and slams it into the back of the net.

Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

8 mins: Chance! What a pass!

Trent Alexander-Arnold sees the ball rolling towards him and laces a first time diagonal cross over the pitch to play Darwin Nunez in behind the lines.

The striker cuts inside and curls a low effort towards the far bottom corner but just sends it wide of the goal. Liverpool have bossed these opening stages so far.

Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

6 mins: Liverpool recover the ball deep in their own half and work it across to Robertson who seems to have loads of space to operate in already.

Nunez drifts wide on the left side and Robertson flicks the ball over to him once again. This time the Liverpool forward carries the ball into the penalty area, ignores Mo Salah’s calls for the pass but then runs it over the byline.

Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

3 mins: Chance! Andy Robertson delivers an aerial pass down the left wing and watches as the ball bounces into the penalty area. Darwin Nunez splits Spurs’ back three and latches onto the dropping ball with a left-shooted shot.

He catches it on the volley and smokes an effort at goal only for Hugo Lloris to leap in front of the ball and palm it wide of the target.

Tottenham vs Liverpool

On paper it looks as though Liverpool are the favourites to win this one. Tottenham have a bunch of key players missing meaning Ivan Perisic is subbing in up top near Harry Kane but they are playing at home.

Liverpool have a terrible away record this season but they also have as close to their best team on the field as possible today. Will they defeat Spurs today?

Reds yet to win on the road

Liverpool have yet to win a top-flight away match this season and are in danger of losing three consecutive away league fixtures for the first time since a run of four from February to April 2012.

Lloris to join Anelka and Distin

Hugo Lloris is one short of becoming the third Frenchman to play 350 Premier League matches, emulating Sylvain Distin and Nicolas Anelka.

He should reach that landmark this afternoon.
