It's not all about the action at the top though with Norwich, Watford and Brentford promoted to the top tier for 2020/21 and hoping to hold their own against the best English football has to offer and avoid the drop.

As things stand in the Premier League, Watford will reduce their deficit to the clubs above them in the table, but 45 minutes is a long time in the life of a relegation-battling side. Certainly, Hodgson - having seen it all before, several times over - will know that his team have ridden their luck at times today, but with Hernandez in full flight, they remain a threat on the counter.

As both sides have had periods in which they created openings - and could have scored even more than the three goals we have been treated to so far - Watford are perhaps fortunate to lead at the interval, but they have made the most of their chances. Southampton largely struggled to convert possession into clear opportunities, but by building pressure towards the end of the half, they've reduced their arrears and could now go on to salvage at least a point after the break - that's if they tidy up some slipshod defending.
