Manchester United travel to Southampton for Saturday’s early Premier League kick off as they look to build on the back of their impressive 2-1 victory over Liverpool last time out. Erik ten Hag’s men displayed a level of energy and intensity that has been lacking at Old Trafford in recent times and avoided a third consecutive defeat after losses to Brighton and Brentford.

There is a now an optimism around the team and they will have to live up to their own standards if they are to beat a Southampton side that recorded their first win of the season against Leicester City last weekend.

After a 4-1 hammering from Tottenham and a 2-2 draw with Leeds, the Saints responded to a James Maddison goal to come from behind and claim a 2-1 victory away at the Foxes thanks to Che Adams’ brace. It was their second game in a row that they’ve claim points from losing positions and manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping to get stuck into this shaky Manchester United side this afternoon.

Mikel Arteta makes two changes to the Arsenal side that defeated Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing. Mohamed Elneny and Kieran Tierney come in for Oleksandr Zinchenko and Thomas Partey.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is expecting a difficult match against Fulham this evening after the ‘incredible run’ they’ve been on at the end of last year and since returning to the Premier League.

“It’ll be a really tough match.” said Arteta, “They’ve been on an incredible run - last year in the Championship they did extremely well, and they haven’t lost a game yet in the Premier League.

“They’ve played against three very difficult opponents, so credit to them. I think it will be a difficult game.”

Fulham have won just one of their last 15 Premier League meetings against Arsenal with five draws and nine defeats. They are winless in eight matches since a 2-1 home win in January 2012.

Mikel Arteta not getting carried away by table-topping Arsenal’s fast start

Mikel Arteta is not getting carried away despite his Arsenal side moving to the top of the Premier League following a comfortable win at Bournemouth.

The Gunners continued a perfect start to the campaign with a 3-0 victory on the south coast as an early Martin Odegaard double and a fine first Arsenal goal from William Saliba made it nine points from nine.

At this stage of last season, Arteta was facing calls to be axed as Arsenal boss as they sat bottom without a point or a goal.

But despite the turnaround, the Spaniard is keen to keep his feet on the ground and not let the winning start lead to complacency.

Marco Silva on backing managers

Fulham boss, Marco Silva, says that Arsenal made the correct call in backing manager Mikel Arteta this time last season with the Gunners bottom of the table after three consecutive defeats and added that the Gunners a reaping the rewards of that faith right now.

“I think he’s one of the best examples of when you believe in the people who are in charge of your club, managing your club,” Silva said.

“When you believe in the staff it cannot be one bad run, one bad month, even if they are one of the biggest clubs in this country, or three or four bad games that can change everything.

“Of course, after time, everything will be put on the right track again. With time and supporting him, and of course it’s clear what they did in the market, some pieces that they brought in to give them the extra they needed, they started really well.

“They are confident, they are playing well, they are creating great dynamics inside the pitch as well, and of course they will be a tough team to play against.”

Oleksandr Zinchenko insists Arsenal need to be ‘focused on the next one’

Oleksandr Zinchenko has become accustomed to life in and around the top of the Premier League and is not getting carried away with new club Arsenal’s fine start to the season.

The Ukraine international moved to the Emirates Stadium from champions Manchester City in the summer and stood out as Mikel Arteta’s side won 3-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus has been involved in five goals in his first three Premier League appearances for Arsenal (two goals, three assists).
