Follow live coverage as Southampton face Ipswich Town today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Southampton vs Ipswich Town

45 minutes gone here at St. Mary’s, and the home side are leading 1-0 and are leading well. In fact, they could have and probably should be leading by more. The game started with Ipswich looking bright and getting themselves forward early on. Their joy was stopped very quickly, however, when Lallana found Dibling in the fifth minute with an inch-perfect pass. Dibling built on his good showing last week by cooly tucking the ball past Muric to make it 1-0 to Southampton. Ipswich brushed off the goal and continued attacking, but the pressure amounted to nothing, a common theme of this first half. Archer rounded Muric in the 27th minute but stumbled as he took his shot and saw the effort stopped by the post. Ipswich are still in the game thanks to that post, as they are playing better attacking football out of the two teams.

Davis this time does find some space on his side, and he breaks into the box—only to scuff his shot in the direction of Ramsdale.

CHANCE! O’Shea rises highest from a corner and looks to have put the header on the wrong side of Ramsdale, but the Saints’ goalkeeper gets across to get his hands on it.

Davis is finding it hard to break down the left side of the pitch, every time he goes forward, he is closed down by two or more players. Brilliant management from Russell Martin to keep that avenue quiet.

Another half-chance for Southampton, Lallana slices his shot on the edge of the box, which causes it to float in the direction of Dibling again. He contests the header but can’t get any contact on the ball.

Not much happening as the game edges towards halftime; Southampton are more than happy to sit on their lead until the interval.

Dibling has once again shown his quality in this game, as he nearly breaks out of a tight area. He was brought down and looked to be in pain—if only he was wearing some shin pads!

The overall balance of the game has become much more equal as Southampton have grown into the game after going ahead. Archer hitting the post has given them the belief to go and get another goal, it seems.
