Follow live coverage as Southampton face Ipswich Town today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Southampton vs Ipswich Town

An end-to-end game spectacularly finishes on the South Coast as Ipswich steal a point late on. The game started with Ipswich pressing high and playing forward at every opportunity, only to be pushed back in the fifth minute by Dibling, who latched on beautifully to a Lallana pass and slid the ball past Muric in goal. That made it 1-0 to the home side, and Archer should have made it 2-0 in the 27th as he hit the post. Unluckily for him, he fell as he took the shot and couldn’t get a proper connection on the strike. Ipswich continued to attack in the first half but to no avail. The second half was very much the same story, Archer missed another wonderful opportunity to take control of the game in the 55th minute, and it would prove costly. From there, Ipswich kept attacking, and finally, after 95 minutes of play, they broke through the Southampton defence. The ball fell kindly to Morsy on the edge of the box following a corner, and he took it from there. The Egyptian smashed the ball goalwards, and via a small deflection, it flew past Ramsdale to level the score. The game ended 1-1 and Ipswich will be the happier of the two sides. Southampton finished the game with an xG of 2.49, which shows how many quality chances they created, whereas Ipswich finished the game with an xG of 1.68. Those two figures prove how attacking this game was and how easily there could’ve been more goals. Thank you for joining this live commentary, goodbye!
