Steve Clarke toasts Scotland's stunning Euro 2024 qualifying win against Spain

Scotland include two uncapped players in their training squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.

After the drama surrounding Gareth Southgate’s England squad on Tuesday, including Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson’s omissions, it is the turn of Steve Clarke, who has confirmed 28 names in a provisional list ahead of Uefa’s deadline on 7 June.

There was a place for two debutants in the team, Liverpool’s Ben Doak and Bristol City’s Ross McCrorie, while James Forrest and Ryan Jack have earned recalls.

Following Scotland’s impressive qualification, finishing second in their group, Clarke will now make his selection for the tournament, with an increased limit set by Uefa allowing for greater options.

But injuries, with Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson all set to be ruled out, will make for several interesting selections, including Clarke’s picks at goalkeeper and in defence and midfield.

Follow the latest updates ahead of the announcement and all the reaction as the Tartan Army counts down to the big opening fixture against hosts Germany in Munich on 14 June:

Steve Clark names 28-man provisional Scotland squad

Former Scotland striker Steven Thompson said to BBC Sport: “Steve Clarke was never going to be too left field. Ryan Jack is perhaps fortunate to make it.

“Ross McCrorie a good decision as he’s been playing right side for Bristol City and is a consistent performer.

“Ben Doak’s inclusion is a bonus a wild card, something different.

“Max Johnston is unlucky not to make it.”

Anthony Gordon reveals why he chose England over Scotland

Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon insists he only ever had eyes for England and that a switch of international allegiance to Scotland was “never a thought”.

The 23-year-old has earned his first senior call-up for the upcoming Wembley friendly double-header against Brazil and Belgium, potentially breaking into Gareth Southgate’s squad just in time for Euro 2024.

Gordon helped England to glory at the 2023 European Under-21 Championship, where he was also named as player of the tournament.

He remains available to both the Republic of Ireland and Scotland through his heritage, with the latter seemingly a possible option to get into the senior international scene and secure a spot at the Euros this summer.

Now, though, that opportunity comes with England and, for the former Everton winger, that was the only outcome he was looking for.

Andy Robertson has spoken to Sky Sports

“Our aim is to be the team that creates history - we have to aim to get out the group,” Robertson told Sky Sports.

“We look at the group and it’s a tough group, it’s a competitive group. But we believe that we can give any team a game and if we do that and we manage to get out the group then we’re the first Scotland team to ever do that.

“We’ve been trying to create our own history, we’ve been trying to create our own story within a nation that have had a lot of good teams in the past, a lot of legends of the game.

“We are trying to create a small part of history and we’ve managed to do that with the two tournaments [reaching Euro 2020 and Euro 2024] but to be able to qualify from the group would be a massive step and it would excel us even further and give us even more belief than we’ve already got.”
