Xavi plots upset in El Clasico against La Liga leaders Real Madrid

Follow live reaction as Barcelona produced a sublime performance to stun rivals Real Madrid and claim a 4-0 win in El Clasico at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid came into the match well clear at the top of La Liga and 15 points ahead of Barcelona in the table, but the visitors produced their best performance of the season so far under new manager Xavi.

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice on his first El Clasico appearance with Ferran Torres and Ronald Araujo also on target as Xavi’s side strenthened their Champions League qualification hoeps with a famous win.

Real Madrid, who were missing Karim Benzema, were a shambles defensively but Carlo Ancelotti’s side remain in control of the title race after second-place Sevilla dropped points for the third match in a row earlier on Sunday.

Follow all the reaction from the 249th El Clasico below

Araujo follows him and leaves room for Alaba to shoot when Vinicius slides the ball back to him. Alaba’s shot is decent but Ter Stegen gets in behind it and keeps it out,

Real Madrid 0 - 4 Barcelona

61 mins: Over an hour played and Barcelona are absolutely cruising here. Real Madrid have been blown away at home. None of Carlo Ancelotti’s changes have worked and there’s a feeling of resignation surrounding the Real players.

Vinicius Junior makes a decent run into the box and brings down a chipped pass over the top. He lays the ball off to Rodrygo who shoots but sees his effort stopped by Ter Stegen. Better from Madrid.

58 mins: Chance! That should be five. Jordi Alba and Ferran Torres combine on the left wing to play the defender in behind this shaly Real defence. Alba squares a pass into the box and picks out Aubameyang at the far post but his first time effort goes wide of the goal!
