From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Arsenal can end the year ahead of Tottenham if they beat West Bromwich Albion on New Year’s Eve with Arsene Wenger’s side looking to keep on the tails of Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool in the top four race.

With the Gunners 22 points behind leaders Manchester City and out of the title battle, a top four place is the best that the north Londoners can hope for in the league this season, and they will hope to pile further misery on basement club West Brom, who slipped below Swansea yesterday to the bottom of the table.

However, while the match represents the last of 2017 for both sides, Arsenal head into the new year with plenty of concerns surrounding their squad, with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Özil and Jack Wilshere all out of contract in the summer and fresh reports that he could leave the club as early as next month.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is challenged by Matt Phillips

54' - Well played, Hal Robson-Kanu. The Welshman skips past Shkodran Mustafi on the left wing before delivering a peach of a cross into the penalty area. However, there's nobody there to meet it and Ainsley Maitland-Niles can nod the ball behind for a corner, which comes to nothing for the hosts.

58' - Chris Brunt goes into the book for a cynical challenge on Jack Wilshere inside the Arsenal half.

60' - Great play. Alexandre Lacazette plays a lovely one-two with Alex Iwobi before drifting past a couple of West Brom defenders and getting a shot away, which Ben Foster saves well with his legs.

That was Arsenal's best opening of the match.

62' - Close! Alexandre Lacazette gets across Jonny Evans to meet Alexis Sanchez's low cross but the Frenchman's flicked, first-time effort goes just wide of Ben Foster's near post.

Arsenal are beginning to turn the screw here.

Alexis Sanchez and Gareth Barry vie for the ball

69' - Alex Iwobi has the perfect chance to slide Alexis Sanchez through on goal but he misplaces a really simple through ball and the attack fizzles out, much to the Chilean's frustration.

72' - Per Mertesacker replaces Laurent Koscielny for Arsenal, while Grzegorz Krychowiak and James McClean replace Chris Brunt and Matt Phillips for West Brom.
