Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Amongst all the mania of their new stadium woes, Tottenham will host their first, and what should have been their last, home league game of the season at Wembley on Saturday in one of the weekend’s two all-London clashes.
Despite their proximity in location, their approach to the transfer market couldn’t have been more different. Financial restraints resulting from stadium expenses saw Spurs fail to sign a single player in the summer window, while newly-promoted Fulham’s spending spree topped £100m with African duo André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Jean Michaël Seri the standout names.
The lack of transfer window activity did little to diminish Tottenham spirits after they overcame Newcastle 2-1 at St James’ Park on the opening weekend, while Fulham were brought crashing back down to earth after their deadline day spending with a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
Mauricio Pochettino had a number of his stars involved in the latter stages of the World Cup and will therefore have to manage them carefully, but will certainly be looking to put back-to-back victories together.
His opposite number Slaviša Jokanović has plenty to ponder after their defeat at Craven Cottage, but will not be discouraged by some of the attacking aspects he saw on Saturday afternoon, and will believe that his forwards can cause a potentially leggy Tottenham defence plenty of problems.

Highlights will be available at 10:30PM on BBC One.
It’s a big game for…
Harry Kane: No matter where the England captain looks at the moment, he will be reminded of his August goal drought that has plagued his entire Tottenham first-team career. Cyrus Christie was the only member of the Fulham defence against Crystal Palace that didn’t join in the summer, and therefore Kane may not get a better opportunity to break the duck than against a new-look and newly-formed defence.

Harry Kane hat-tricks seem to be the norm nowadays, but his first in the FA Cup came againstSaturday’s opponents in 2017. His fifth hat-trick for Spurs, the goals saw Tottenham reach the quarter-finals, a run which came to an end against Chelsea at Wembley in the semi-finals.
Player to watch…
Jean Michaël Seri: The 27-year-old Ivorian was undoubtedly Fulham’s standout performer against Crystal Palace. Tenacious and busy in both halves of the pitch, the likes of Dier, Dembélé and Sissoko will no doubt have their hands full on the wide-open Wembley pitch as they attempt to negate his presence.

Fulham need time to build 'spirit'
Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic says it will take longer for Fulham to adapt to life in the Premier League as they return to Wembley for the first time since their play-off victory in May.
Jokanovic said they have been working on building team “spirit” and must quickly gel together to start producing their best football.
“We have many new players and will need time,” he said ahead of facing Tottenham this afternoon. “We worked well this week, building our team spirit and working on the way we want to play football.
“We must be patient and I believe we signed quality players without any work so it’s complicated for them,” he added.
