Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A late strike from Jose Holebas earned Watford a 1-1 draw at a rain-soaked Southampton on Saturday and extended the home side's winless run to eight Premier games, increasing the pressure on manager Mark Hughes.

Manolo Gabbiadini gave the Saints the lead with a smart turn and finish in the 20th minute, profiting from good work by Danny Ings, who picked Roberto Pereyra's pocket inside the penalty area and played in his fellow striker following a corner.

The goal was the Italian's first of the season but Holebas equalised in the 82nd to deny the Saints a much-needed victory and leave them one place above the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference ahead of the international break.

The ball broke to Watford's Greek defender just outside the Southampton area after bouncing off Gerard Deulofeu and he advanced into the box before unleashing a left-foot strike that flew past keeper Alex McCarthy after taking a deflection.

33 min: Leicester 0-0 Burnley

Leicester have looked extremely threatening on the attack, but there is nothing to show for it as of yet.

Joe Hart is seemingly in for a busy afternoon, and the goalkeeper reacts well to a through ball with Demarai Gray having beaten the Clarets' back-line.

37 min: Southampton 1-0 Watford

Chances at both ends at St Mary's. Gabbiadini heads an effort wide from a Lemina cross, before Armstrong is denied by Foster's legs after a Bertrand cut-back.

Sandwiched in between those opportunities was an effort for Pereyra, who has his shot well saved by McCarthy.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-0 Bournemouth (Rondon 40')

Kenedy whips in a ball from the left-hand side and the Venezuelan gets his second of the game at the near post with a powerful header after shrugging off Nathan Ake.

A change for either side. Will Hughes is brought off for Troy Deeney, while Danny Ings goes off with a suspected hamstring injury and Charlie Austin is his replacement.

45 min: Huddersfield 1-0 West Ham

There's also a change at the John Smith's Stadium, with Erik Durm replacing Chris Lowe, who was down for a while there.

Half Time: Leicester 0-0 Burnley

Not a lot to speak about at Leicester.

Kasper Schmeichel had to keep out a Gudmundsson free-kick in the final 10 minutes of the half. The closest the hosts have come is through Rachid Ghezzal, whose header came back off the bar.

The hosts had some good attacking moments but failed to create too much.

Half Time: Southampton 1-0 Watford

Manolo Gabbiadini's 20th minute goal is the difference here, and it is a goal Southampton were crying out for.

However the visitors have had chances of their own through Gerard Deulofeu and Robert Pereyra, but  Alex McCarthy has held firm so far.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-1 Bournemouth (Lerma 45+6)

The visitors cut the deficit in half through their record signing, who glances a header into the corner of the net from a corner, moments after Dubravka had denied Steve Cook.

Half Time: Huddersfield 1-0 West Ham

Huddersfield do lead through Alex Pritchard, but they shopuld be further ahead as they have struck the woodwork twice.

West Ham have not been at it so far so will need an improvement in the second half.

Big afternoon for the Venezuelan
