From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of Liverpool's Premier League match against Burnley.
Team news will be with you shortly...
KICK-OFF: We're underway on Merseyside where Liverpool have kicked-off and are attacking the Kop. We'll have news of all the important action at Anfield and the goals from the other four 3pm matches in the Premier League
9 mins: Liverpool 0 Burnley 0: Jurgen Klopp has made seven changes to the team that drew with Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek, and that upheaval is showing. The Reds are taking a while to get going, but have just registered their first shot: a long range scuffer from Trent Alexander-Arnold that went well wide.
There's not much happening at Anfield, but there are records being made at the Hawthorns.
19 mins: GOAL! NEWCASTLE 1 STOKE 0:
Newcastle are ahead at St James' Park! Christian Atsu was in the right place - unmarked at the far post - at the right time - the 19th minute - to poke home Matt Ritchie's cross. It's a welcome sight for manager Rafa Benitez, who is back in the dugout this afternoon after missing his side's last match at Swansea following an operation.
21 mins: Liverpool 0 Burnley 0: The home side are seeing plenty of the ball, but are struggling to find a way through a mass of white shirts, shorts and socks. Philippe Coutinho, back in a Liverpool kit for the first time since his move to Barcelona failed to materialise, weaves his way into the box before going to ground. There's half a claim for a penalty but referee Roger East is not interested.
27 mins: GOAL! LIVERPOOL 0 BURNLEY 1:
Burnley strike! It's the Canadian international Scott Arfield who has stunned at Anfield! The Clarets midfielder latched on to a bouncing ball inside the Liverpool box, hopelessly dealt with by the home defence. First time, Arfield took aim and smashed a low drive into the bottom left corner of Simon Mignolet's goal, sparking frenzied celebrations in and in front of the away end.
27 mins: GOAL! WATFORD 0 MANCHESTER CITY 1:
Manchester City break the deadlock and there are no prizes for guessing who's responsible. Yes, it's Sergio Aguero with his fourth of the season. The on-fire forward was first to react as Kevin De Bruyne curled a free-kick into the box, and had time and space to head beyond Heurelho Gomes.
