Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Remember that England's U17s were trailing Spain in the World Cup final earlier? Well get a load of this: the teenage Lions are now 4-2 UP, with ten minutes left to play. Football's coming home, isn't it?
We'll get to matters at Dean Court presently, but it seems worth telling you that ENGLAND HAVE WON THE WORLD CUP. The U17s have done it, beating Spain 5-2 in a frankly ludicrous final in India. Well done to them. Incredible.
KICK-OFF: Back to matters more relevant to the title of this live blog. We're underway on the south coast, in what should, fingers crossed, be a fairly attractive game of football. Lots of attacking talent on display and what looks like a perfect evening for football. Let's do this.
6 min: Chelsea are dominating possession in the early stages, with Pedro and Eden Hazard both wriggling into nice pockets of space. You get the impression Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake are going to be busy against their former employers.
9 min: A sight of goal for Pedro, who drifts in from the left, unchallenged, and shoots on his left foot. He doesn't get over it, however, and Asmir Begovic is untroubled. Bournemouth have hardly touched the ball so far.
