Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

We're underway around the grounds. Lovren picked up an injury in the warm-up, by the way, that wasn't just Jurgen Klopp indulging in some weapons-grade trolling.
Word from the Hawthorns is that West Brom have gone a bit new-age. We're talking three at the back (five, in all likelihood), high pressing... Tony Pulis has clearly been reading some of those think pieces about his style of football getting stagnant over time. Bit dangerous against Manchester City, but fair play for trying.
Arsenal are dominating the early stages against Swansea. Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez have already tried their luck, and it looks like being a long old afternoon for that away defence.
Crystal Palace are shading their game against West Ham at Selhurst Park. Scott Dann, always a danger at set pieces, has already had one effort on goal.
GOAL: West Brom 0-1 Man City (Sane). That had been coming. After knocking on the door in the opening ten minutes, the league leaders have the lead at the Hawthorns. Leroy Sane is the scorer, slamming home his sixth league goal of the season after a Fernandinho pass.
GOAL: West Brom 1-1 Man City (Rodriguez). Well that was unexpected. Manchester City's offside trap fails to function, allowing Jay Rodriguez to nip in and guide a subtle little finish past the stranded Ederson. Sketchy defending from City, who led for only a couple of minutes.
GOAL: West Brom 1-2 Man City (Fernandinho). This is getting silly: a third goal in five minutes at the Hawthorns. Fernandinho, who set up Leroy Sane's opener, now has a goal of his own, his long-range shot sneaking through a forest of legs and sneaking past Ben Foster.
