Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

After Arsenal went down to defeat at Everton and Leicester City's mini-revival was nipped in the bud by Bournemouth, the Premier League's other 16 teams are in action on Wednesday.

League leaders Chelsea could go six points clear if they beat Sunderland, while challengers Liverpool are also in the North-east at Middlesbrough.

Crystal Palace entertain Manchester United in one of the 8.00pm kick-offs, while Tottenham Hotspur host Hull City.

14 mins: GOAL! TOTTENHAM 1 HULL 0:

Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen were two of Tottenham's better performers at Old Trafford on Sunday, and the two have just combined to break Hull's early resistance at White Hart Lane. The left-back burst into the box before pulling a cross back for the Dane to slot home past David Marshall.

29 mins: GOAL! MIDDLESBROUGH 0 LIVERPOOL 1:

Another goal for Adam Lallana has Liverpool in the lead at the Riverside Stadium. Georginio Wijnaldum searched out the marauding Nathaniel Clyne on the right with a crossfield pass, and the full-back's whipped cross into the middle was met powerfully by the head of the arriving Lallana. Victor Valdes had no chance, and the England man, recently back from injury, continues his scintillating scoring form.

20 mins: Crystal Palace 0 Manchester United 0: Eric Bailly chose to stay on and run off his early knock, and it may be a decision he is regretting right now. Having recovered from one injury, the makeshift right-back has just been booted on the knee by Lee Chung-Yong.

23 mins: RED CARD! STOKE 0 SOUTHAMPTON 0:

Marko Arnautovic has been dismissed at the Britannia Stadium, and Stoke City are down to ten men. It's the cause of confusion on the wires as early reports state it is as a result of two bookings, but it now appears that the Austrian has been given a straight red by referee Anthony Taylor after he lunged into the back of Sofiane Boufal.

40 mins: GOAL! SUNDERLAND 0 CHELSEA 1:

The leaders lead! Having won possession in midfield, Chelsea broke at pace and when Willian slipped a pass into the path of Cesc Fabregas from the right, the Spaniard midfielder curled a peach of a shot into the bottom right corner of Jordan Pickford's goal from the edge of the box.

45+2 mins: PENALTY! WEST HAM 0 BURNLEY 0:

Penalty to West Ham! On the brink of half-time, Andy Carroll won a Dimitri Payet corner in the air and as Winston Reid went to poke home, he was impeded by Ben Mee. Referee Bobby Madley pointed to the spot, and the Londoners have a great opportunity to take the lead.

33 mins: GOAL! MANCHESTER CITY 1 WATFORD 0:

Breakthrough for Manchester City! Raheem Sterling and Nolito combined to work the ball out to Kevin De Bruyne on the left from where the Belgian chipped a cross into the Watford danger area. Forwards and defenders missed their connections alike, but that allowed the ball to travel through to Pablo Zabaleta at the far post, who poked a shot past Heurelho Gomes on the half-volley.

45+3 mins: GOAL! WEST HAM 1 BURNLEY 0:

Mark Noble has his penalty saved by Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton, but the West Ham captain reacts quickest to fire home the loose ball from the rebound. Slaven Bilic's men will once again go in at half-time in front. Can they hold on this time is the question?
