From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

52 mins: GOAL! SOUTHAMPTON 1 BURNLEY 0:

Southampton finally find a way past Tom Heaton, but it's not in the sensational manner that was suggested. A Dusan Tadic corner from the right was met by Virgil van Dijk's header that unwittingly clattered against the back of Oriol Romeu's neck. The loose ball fell for Charlie Austin, who forced over a crowded goalline at the second attempt. They all count, however, and it's a sixth goal in six games for the Southampton striker, and his third in three against his former club.

65 mins: PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTON!

A lovely through ball by Dusan Tadic dissects the Burnley defence and puts Sam McQueen in on goal, but before the young substitute can do much more, he is bundled to the floor by Johann Berg Gudmundsson. Mike Dean has no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Southampton have the chance to net a quickfire treble.

66 mins: GOAL! SOUTHAMPTON 3 BURNLEY 0:

Charlie Austin takes responsibility from 12 yards and makes no mistake in slipping the ball past Tom Heaton for 3-0. The Southampton striker waited for the Burnley keeper to commit himself and then side-footed the other way.

68 mins: Dean Marney goes in late on Virgil van Dijk on the left touchline, and receives a yellow card from Mike Dean and some accusatory finger-pointing from Charlie Austin.
