From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United secured their highest finish since winning the league in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season with their drab draw at West Ham on Thursday. Second in the league and an FA Cup final to would be a very successful season for most Premier League clubs, but it feels a little disappointing, given how far ahead Manchester City are and that other big rivals Liverpool are in the Champions League final
By the end of the West Ham game Jose Mourinho’s side were time-wasting to secure the draw, which is an indictment in and of itself. They face Watford on the final day with second guaranteed and nothing to play for.
Given Watford’s history, the chances are not good that Javi Gracia is still in charge for the beginning of next season. There will be immense player turnover again, and Watford’s team will likely be reshaped under new management for another relegation scrap. Manchester United may rest players ahead of the FA Cup Final, and thus Watford may have a chance for a first win at Old Trafford since 1978.

Lanzini finishes nicely for West Ham on his left foot after a loose pass.
It is lovely one-touch football from Arsenal, with Alexandre Lacazette heavily involved. His strike partner Aubameyang slides in at the far post for his tenth Premier League goal since arriving in January.
1000 goals in the 2017-18 Premier League Season. And of course it is a Peter Crouch header. Nice ball in from young Lasse Sorensen, and Swansea are surely down.
An unlikely scorer, but Liverpool are 2-0 up and set for Champions League football. Andrew Robertson puts the ball in the box and Dejan Lovren thunders a header in to the back of the net.
Lost in that goal rush was an opener at Turf Moor. Chris Wood is the scorer, and it is a bizarre one. It is good football from Burnley, but Ashley Westwood completely miscues a volley when a cross reaches the midfielder. Fortunately the ball ricochets off Wood and goes in.
PHEW! Time for a breather and a half-time cuppa at all ten games.
As things stand:
- Liverpool finish third, Tottenham fourth and Chelsea fifth.
- Southampton stay up and finish 16th, Swansea are relegated with Stoke and bottom-placed West Brom.
- Leicester go ahead of Everton into eighth, while West Ham jump ahead of three clubs into twelfth.
