From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. The result left United in seventh place on 21 points from 13 games, 14 adrift of leaders Manchester City and six behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who were hosting third-placed Chelsea in the 1730 GMT kick-off.
Striker Romelu Lukaku returned to United's starting line-up after being dropped in four previous games in all competitions but he looked rusty and the home side were fortunate to scrape a share of the spoils against the more adventurous visitors.
Wilfried Zaha and Patrick Van Aanholt came close for Palace in the opening half and Cheikhou Kouyate had a goal correctly disallowed for marginal offside, while keeper Wayne Hennessey denied Jesse Lingard at the other end.
Lukaku also had a goal scrapped for fractional offside in the 57th minute before Andros Townsend spurned a gilt-edged chance for Palace when he shot wide from 10 metres after a good solo run.
Having introduced Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez in the second half, United manager Jose Mourinho finished the match with all his forwards on the pitch but the home side failed to carve out any supply routes in the closing stages.

Player to watch…
Anthony Martial: The Frenchman pulled out of international duty with an abductor injury, but has been in excellent form of late. The 22-year-old has scored three goals in four games, including the penalty in United’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City. United’s best attacking work against City came through Martial, and while he wasn’t at his efficient best he will no doubt be a threat to the Palace defence.

Eden Hazard has a rare touch, feeding Cesar Azpilicueta before looking to get into the box. Hazard is now playing as a false nine but can't reconnect with his colleague after moving into the area.

What a miss!
Chelsea are all over the place defensively, Moussa Sissoko completely free breaking down the right and Harry Kane equally alone in the six-yard box.
Somehow, Kane spoons the chance over from Sissoko's square ball. You'd have put your house on him scoring form there.
69 minutes
Realistically, this could already be five or six.
Chelsea are 3-0 down as is, and at the moment Spurs look more likely to score the next.
70 minutes
Chelsea are charging hither and thither with complete disregard for their own defensive well-being.
Dele Alli's lovely side-footed drive is inches past the angle of the goal after he and Harry Kane combine to open up another opportunity.
72 minutes
Jorginho finally goes into Martin Atkinson's book for a nasty rake down the back of Dele Alli's heel.
Erik Lamela is being readied...
Jorginho and Dele Alli have clashed a couple of times during the course of the game. The latter has completely nullified the former, who has been ineffectual.
75 minutes
Juan Foyth has been strong defensively for Spurs, and he twice cuts out crosses into the box, first from Marcos Alonso and then from Willian.
That's Willian's final act as Olivier Giroud enters the fray from the Chelsea bench.
77 minutes
Dele Alli is completely free as Spurs break and Moussa Sissoko's pass is headed his way.
Cesar Azpilicueta extends his leg with impressive amplitude to cut it out.
78 minutes
Spurs' first change, and it is Erik Lamela introduced. Heung-Min Son gets a great ovation from the Wembley crowd as he goes off after his stunning goal which seems to have secured his side victory
81 minutes
Erik Lamela leaves Eden Hazard befuddled with a lovely ball roll past the Belgian before exchanging passes twice to move the ball forward.
The move breaks down soon afterwards, but there is a real party atmosphere about Spurs' play now, and the home crowd are responding as Chelsea fans stream out of Wembley.
