Klopp has questioned Manchester United’s penalty record after the Reds saw two appeals rejected in the loss at St Mary’s, which now sees their rivals United able to move ahead of them at the top of the Premier League, should they win their game in hand. The losses of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and, in the short term, Joel Matip, have left many calling for reinforcements at the back. Youngsters Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams have stepped in and performed admirably, but for the Reds to remain on course in Europe and defend their title at home, a new signing could be necessary. A proven centre-back could then boost their hopes of advancing in the Champions League knock-outs, where RB Leipzig await in the last 16.

Here you will find all the latest gossip, rumours and latest transfer news surrounding Anfield in what has been an unprecedented season. While Klopp is keeping his cards close to his chest for now: “We have solutions in the squad - obviously. But we are struggling still with the injuries we have at this specific moment - it is happening most of the time it is in the centre-half position. That's clear. Some players are injured, play pretty quick like Joel [Matip] and get injured again. It just can happen like this, when it starts at one point and just doesn't stop. So we have solutions in the squad but if we can do something in the window - I don't know, it's really like that. It's a very difficult transfer window, I'm sure you can imagine. Not a lot of clubs have real money, some clubs don't have money but don't need money as well - that's the situation.”

WOULD INGS BE A USEFUL OPTION TO KLOPP OFF THE BENCH?
Jamie Carragher believes Danny Ings is better than anything Liverpool currently have off their bench after the former Red scored the winner in Southampton’s 1-0 win over the champions last night.
The England international joined Saints in 2019 and Klopp, currently without Diogo Jota, was left with Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino and Xherdan Shaqiri to turn the game from the bench, none of which are superior to Ings right now according to Carragher.
“He just couldn’t find his way in. He’s better than what Liverpool had on the bench tonight, though,” Carragher said.
“Southampton are not lucky to have him, he was a big signing before he came in. But he is just outside the elite goalscorers, he is almost the next one.”
JAMES QUESTIONS NEED FOR ‘QUICK FIX’
Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper David James has expressed doubt over the need for a new centre-back this month.
The Premier League champions are in the midst of a defensive crisis, with both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez long-term absentees.
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho lined up together at the back on Monday night as Liverpool fell to a 1-0 defeat, leading to more calls for defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window.
“I’m always wary about transfer windows. Every club is the same, pretty much, in regards to finance in this current time," James told Stadium Astro.
“If you are going to bring someone in, who are they going to replace and how are they going to replace them? Do Liverpool need a quick fix?
“With Jurgen, their recruitment model has been fantastic up to this point. They have brought players in that they have been needed in a certain place and it fits a structure.
“A kneejerk reaction to improve this season would go against that model.
“There is a lot of call for a replacement for Van Dijk, but they have got young players who can do it. It’s whether they can turn round these young players, the likes of Williams and Phillips, and get them to be more consistent."

MILLAR ON CHARLTON LOAN
Liam Millar has spoken after completing a loan move to League One side Charlton.
The forward will join the Addicks until the end of the season.
He said: "It feels great to be a Charlton player and I'm excited to get going. Charlton is a big club and you can see that just by walking around the stadium, so I'm very excited to be here. I spoke to the manager on the phone, he had very clear goals, stuff that I think I can come here and help with."
KLOPP ‘IN CONTACT’ WITH MBAPPE
Jurgen Klopp is in contact with Kylian Mbappe and “dreams” of signing the Frenchman, according to a report from Sport.
Liverpool are one of several clubs monitoring Mbappe, who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Spanish newspaper Sport have suggested that Klopp is hopeful of signing Mbappe, even if Real Madrid are considered the strong favourites.
