From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The close-range goal 45 seconds before the end of four minutes of added time came after Virgil van Dijk’s hopelessly-sliced shot was shovelled onto the crossbar by Pickford when it appeared to be going out.
It was a harsh way to end the game for Pickford, who made at least one fantastic save in the first half, but it sparked wild scenes with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp charging into the centre-circle to celebrate with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who himself had produced a couple of brilliant saves to keep another clean sheet.
Origi had played just 11 minutes as a substitute this season in the 2-0 Champions League defeat against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and his long-term prospects look bleak.
But whatever happens over the coming months his goal for the 1-0 victory will be remembered for extending Everton’s wait for a win at Anfield into a 20th year as the hosts made it 10 wins and nine draws to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City, whose lead was cut to two points again.
Re-live the action below:
84 mins: A Liverpool free-kick is cleared for a corner with Van Dijk lurking and causing trouble.
86 mins: CORNER LIVERPOOL!
Great turn of pace from Origi and Liverpool win a corner after his cross is diverted clear.
87 mins: OFF THE BAR!
How's your luck, Liverpool?
Finally, a good delivery from Alexander-Arnold finds Van Dijk who wins the header and Origi can't sort his feet out quickly enough so his shot only hits the bar.
Liverpool win a free-kick now and Andre Gomes is booked.
88 mins: What a HUGE chance that was for Liverpool and Sturridge's volley on the rebound was claimed for penalty but nothing given.
The free-kick was wasted.
Everton preparing two changes.
89 mins: Bernard, who has been impressive, is replaced by Calvert Lewin.
90 mins: Half chance for the Blues but Richarlison can't get the ball out of his feet and set up another Everton player.
Sigurdsson's last action of the game is to get a yellow card for a cynical challenge and he is replaced by Kurt Zouma.
Everton probably happy with the point here IF they can hang on.
90+1 mins: Keita's shot is sliced horribly tamely and wide of Everton's goal.
Pickford will be very happy to see that go wide.
3 minutes for them to hang on to a precious point for Everton but also for Manchester City.
90+3 mins: Nice play from Sturridge on the edge of the box who is trying to get some free space.
He can't quite manage it though and Richarlison manages to dispossess him.
Half hearted appeals for a penalty but nothing given.
Gueye is down so there may be an extra minute or two added on here.
Can we find a late goal anywhere?
