From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The close-range goal 45 seconds before the end of four minutes of added time came after Virgil van Dijk’s hopelessly-sliced shot was shovelled onto the crossbar by Pickford when it appeared to be going out.
It was a harsh way to end the game for Pickford, who made at least one fantastic save in the first half, but it sparked wild scenes with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp charging into the centre-circle to celebrate with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who himself had produced a couple of brilliant saves to keep another clean sheet.
Origi had played just 11 minutes as a substitute this season in the 2-0 Champions League defeat against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and his long-term prospects look bleak.
But whatever happens over the coming months his goal for the 1-0 victory will be remembered for extending Everton’s wait for a win at Anfield into a 20th year as the hosts made it 10 wins and nine draws to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City, whose lead was cut to two points again.

34 mins: CHANCE EVERTON!
Every time Liverpool threaten, Everton go down the other end and try again.
It's absolute magic from Sigurdsson who's pass feeds the run of Walcott who takes it round Alisson but the ball cannons back off the Englishman and out for a goalkick.
Andre Gomes somehow not capitalising on the chance to give Everton the lead...
43 mins:
The half is petering out to a 0-0 draw with a very subdued Anfield only making noise when feeling more restless.
Doesn't feel like a derby game at the moment but Liverpool now have a free-kick with minutes to go in this first half.
Mina gets too tight to Mo Salah.
HALF TIME: Liverpool 0-0 Everton
Not a bad game, not by any stretch, but after watching Arsenal and Tottenham in a goal fest, this feels slightly underwhelming.
Both have had chances to take the lead, with Everton having the better of it, Andre Gomes the most guilty of missing the best chance.
This is unlike Liverpool at Anfield but they just haven't risen very well to the occasion.
They were poor in Paris in midweek. Can they improve in the second half?
47 mins: We're underway in this second half and Everton started brightly once again.
Walcott has a lung-busting run through the middle of the park as Liverpool just opened up for him and he unleashes with his left foot but it's well blocked.
47 mins: CHANCE LIVERPOOL!
Salah makes a bit of room for himself on the edge of the box and bends it towards goal.
His shot goes narrowly wide though as Pickford sees it clear.
