Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is concerned that a “mole” among his squad is leaking details of his team selection to rival teams following the 2-1 defeat by Leicester City on Monday night, with the worry that he is being undermined at the club.

*UPDATE* Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea. Read the full story here.

Mourinho was outspoken in his criticism of the players following the loss at the King Power Stadium, blaming a number of his key squad members for “betraying” him after failing to convert their performances on the training ground into their results on the pitch.

And according to The Times, Mourinho is concerned that his team selection for the Premier League match was leaked to the Blues’s opponents ahead of kick-off, leading to the manager believing he has a mole in the squad that does not want Chelsea to improve matters at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho also has suspicion that his team selection was leaked to Porto ahead of Chelsea’s 3-0 Champions League victory last week after learning that the Portuguese club – which Mourinho used to manage – knew midfielder Cesc Fabregas had been dropped from the squad for the crucial group stage encounter.

The Chelsea manager ensures that team tactics aren’t leaked ahead of matches by instructing his players not to inform family members of whether they are playing or not, given his fear that important team news can be leaked to opponents. It’s added that Mourinho believes the leak came from within the Chelsea camp, although there is no suggestion that Fabregas is responsible for the information being given out.

Chelsea’s board members, including club owner Roman Abramovich, met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss Mourinho’s future, although the 52-year-old went about his business as usual after attending a Christmas party for young Chelsea fans and visiting a hospital along with the entire first-team squad.

However, he was openly critical of some of his players and claimed that certain team members need to “rethink” the way they go about their business off the pitch in a bid to improve performances on it.

“Some of them need to rethink how the way they live Chelsea, they live football, they live their job,” Mourinho said in an interview with Chelsea TV.

“Chelsea is big, football is more than a job, it’s a passion. Every match on the pitch you should live with an unbelievable passion.

“How many millions would love to be football players and they can’t be? You shouldn’t waste any minutes on the pitch, you should enjoy every minute and give absolutely everything. Yes, I feel frustrated with some players, and I feel that some others, they give everything and don’t deserve to lose.”
