Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…
Patrick van Aanholt: The Dutchman delivered a poor performance against Wolves, giving the ball away cheaply at times and he was beaten far too easily by Matt Doherty’s movement for the goal. With the likes of Theo Walcott, Bernard and Richarlison providing both pace and excellent movement up front, Roy Hodgson will hope his limited exertions with the Netherlands have given him sufficient time to come back refreshed.

7: Gylfi Sigurdsson has contributed to seven goals in his last six Premier League starts against Crystal Palace. The 29-year-old Icelandic midfielder has scored three goals and registered four assists in that time against the London club.
Player to watch…
Bernard: The Brazilian has had to bide his time at Goodison Park, making just one substitute appearance in his first month on Merseyside. However, the former Shakhtar Donetsk winger was superb against Leicester, setting up Richarlison for Everton’s opener after jinking past two defenders, while showing similar skill on various other occasions. Bernard did not shy away from his defensive duties either, and those are ominous signs for Palace as the summer signing’s confidence increases.

No goals at the break. Everton looked to break again in the dying seconds of that half but were shut out by the Palace backline. Everton 0-0 Crystal Palace.
Roy Hodgson will be fairly content with his side's efforts in the first half. They've gone closest to breaking the deadlock, after Cheikhou Kouyate saw his header come back off the bar. Wilfried Zaha has looked lively at times and wasn't happy with some of the treatment he was getting from Everton's defenders. No change there.
At the other end, Gylfi Sigurdsson has had a couple of chances, but Marco Silva will want to see an improvement from his side in the second half. Palace have dealt well with everything Everton have thrown at them. It's been a tough game for debutant Andre Gomes. Palace have made this game quite scrappy in the middle of the park.
Everton's options on the bench include Yerry Mina, Tom Davies, Cenk Tosun and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Will Connor Wickham have a part to play in this second half? Wilfried Zaha has done well so far and looks as if he could do with a target man to play off. Roy Hodgson was full of praise for the former Sunderland striker in the build-up to this match.
46 minutes
Seamus Coleman isn't best pleased after a one-two with Theo Walcott doesn't come off.
47 minutes
Everton have a corner early in the second half after Bernard gets in behind Wan-Bissaka again. The Brazilian looks to be in some pain after going flying into the advertising boards.
48 minutes
The corner comes to nothing as Everton are penalised for a foul.
49 minutes
It's another Everton corner as the ball comes off Schlupp in a battle with Coleman. Again in comes to nothing as Keane rises to flick his header wide.
51 minutes
Action. Richarlison tracks back and battles well with Zaha. He beats his man before Milivojevic comes flying in and hacks him down. He's booked. The home fans feel that could have been a red.
