From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Everton were forced to settle for a point as Newcastle dug in to claim a creditable 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Everton forward Richarlison cancelled out Salomon Rondon's early strike for the visitors but the hosts paid the price for spurning further gilt-edged chances before the break.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Cenk Tosun both looked certain to score before being denied by Federico Fernandez and Martin Dubravka respectively.

Everton's pace dropped in the second period as Newcastle sat deep to protect a point and inch a little further away from the Premier League's bottom three. PA

Player to watch:

Yerry Mina. He momentarily broke England hearts at the World Cup this summer and he’s in a dominant mood again with his new club Everton. The defender won man of the match on his debut at Stamford Bridge, and has proved worth the wait after he missed the start of the season. The Colombian is assertive in the air and even loves a goal; he scored three in four games at the World Cup from centre back. Everton were awful at the back last season, but Mina alongside Michael Keane is a defensive partnership with strength and technical ability.

Prediction

Everton to win 2-0

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal, 42 minutes

Nemanja Matic hauls back an Arsenal player looking to counter.

You know the drill.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:43

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal, 45 minutes

Aaron Ramsey slides in on Matic and has taken a knock to the leg.

Arsenal have already lost Rob Holding to injury tonight and Ramsey is another in bother.

Fortunately for Unai Emery, Ramsey (with a grimace) trudges to the halfway line and will continue.

Three added minutes.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:46

Half time at Wembley. Spurs have a 1-0 lead thanks to Harry Kane's ninth minute opener.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:46

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal, 45 + 2 minutes

Aaron Ramsey has rejoined the action, but he's not moving smoothly. A half time change may be required, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is warming up.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:48

Half time at Old Trafford. 1-1.

The second halves have started in the four earlier games.

An early penalty appeal for Chelsea at Wolves, but not given. What does the second 45 have in store?

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:50

Burnley 0-0 Liverpool, 47 minutes

Joe Hart is tested soon after the resumption, Daniel Sturridge stinging his palms with a strong effort.

Good stop from Hart.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:52

Burnley 0-0 Liverpool, 52 minutes

Another excellent save from Hart. This time it is Naby Keita forcing the Burnley keeper into action.

Liverpool pressing for an opening goal.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:57

GOAL! Burnley 1-0 Liverpool (Jack Cork, 54 minutes)

But the hosts lead!

Jack Cork stabs home from the clutches of Alisson, who fumbled after a Burnley corner.

An argument could be made that the Brazilian had both hands on the ball, and there may have been an offside in the build up, but the goal stands and Burnley have the lead against the run of play.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:59

GOAL! Wolves 1-1 Chelsea (Raul Jimenez, 59 minutes)

Lovely play from Morgan Gibbs-White to create the opening for Raul Jimenez, and the Mexican striker finishes superbly.
