From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Everton were forced to settle for a point as Newcastle dug in to claim a creditable 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Everton forward Richarlison cancelled out Salomon Rondon's early strike for the visitors but the hosts paid the price for spurning further gilt-edged chances before the break.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Cenk Tosun both looked certain to score before being denied by Federico Fernandez and Martin Dubravka respectively.

Everton's pace dropped in the second period as Newcastle sat deep to protect a point and inch a little further away from the Premier League's bottom three. PA

Player to watch:

Yerry Mina. He momentarily broke England hearts at the World Cup this summer and he’s in a dominant mood again with his new club Everton. The defender won man of the match on his debut at Stamford Bridge, and has proved worth the wait after he missed the start of the season. The Colombian is assertive in the air and even loves a goal; he scored three in four games at the World Cup from centre back. Everton were awful at the back last season, but Mina alongside Michael Keane is a defensive partnership with strength and technical ability.

Prediction

Everton to win 2-0

GOAL! Everton 0-1 Newcastle (Salomon Rondon, 19 minutes)

A surprising away opener for Newcastle, too.

Salomon Rondon is found brilliantly by Jacob Murphy at the far post and makes no mistake with the finish.

Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal, 8 minutes

Not much to talk about at Old Trafford since the home team had the early advantage.

The Arsenal fans are having their say.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:09

GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Southampton (Harry Kane, 9 minutes)

Christian Eriksen to Harry Kane...

Spurs lead!

A simple finish for Kane, who made an excellent run to the near post to latch onto Eriksen's low cross after a short corner.

Burnley 0-0 Liverpool, 23 minutes

Joe Gomez has pulled up lame and won't be able to continue.

Trent Alexander-Arnold replaces his fellow England international at right back. A worry for Gomez and Liverpool fans.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:11

Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal, 13 minutes

It is still the home team on top at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot and Matteo Damian are pushing on from wing back, with Marcos Rojo in particular comfortable sliding wider at left centre back.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:14

Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal, 15 minutes

Alex Iwobi gets in behind Eric Bailly and earns a corner.

Lucas Torreira to deliver from the left...

It is in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's direction but Matteo Darmian does enough to put him off. A fair bit of jostling between the pair as the ball hung in the air.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:17

Burnley 0-0 Liverpool, 29 minutes

Virgil Van Djik rises highest to meet a corner but can only find the safe hands of Joe Hart in the Burnley goal.

Joe Gomez was stretchered off earlier after colliding with the advertising boards at the side of the pitch. Some talk that it may be his ankle.

Harry Latham-Coyle5 December 2018 20:19

Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal, 20 minutes

Better from Arsenal.

Sead Kolasinac gets in behind Diogo Dalot but crosses straight to Chris Smalling, who should clear easily.

Smalling completely misses his hack at the ball, however, and Arsenal can reload and attack again.

The ball comes to Hector Bellerin on the edge of the area but the Spaniard's effort is poor.

Harry Kane has given Spurs an early lead at Wembley.

GOAL! Everton 1-1 Newcastle (RIcharlison, 37 minutes)

Everton are level through their brilliant Brazilian.

Richarlison profits from a corner, which came about after Martin Dubravka was forced into an outstanding save to turn an effort behind.

Richarlison did well to finish that chance off. A kiss of the badge in celebration.
