From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. After over an hour of trying, Liverpool finally hit back against Chelsea to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League. Eden Hazard struck in the first half to ensure Maurizio Sarri's side came out on top after an intense opening period, but Daniel Strurridge's wonderful late goal means the points are shared.
The home side had defended well and David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger were on hand to clear off the line to prevent Liverpool scoring an earlier equaliser. Xheradan Shaqiri also went close with an effort going wide from close range and Alisson was called on several times to keep Chelsea's early lead to just one goal.

It’s a big game for…
Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool winger has not quite found the miraculous form of last season as of yet, and will go to Stamford Bridge with a chip on his shoulder against his former club. Salah, who was unable to make an impact in the midweek defeat as a late substitute, was barely given a chance during his time at Chelsea from 2014 to 2016, and will want to silence the home fans with an eye-catching performance.
Best stat…
Three: Chelsea have only won three of their last 11 home games against Liverpool in the Premier League. Liverpool have won five.
Player to watch…
Eden Hazard: The Belgium captain is thriving under Sarri at the moment, and is the joint top scorer in the Premier League currently with five goals from six matches. The 27-year-old will be itching to attack Liverpool’s defence, after his wonderful solo goal in the last few minutes won the Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday. He’ll need to beat a different goalkeeper this time though, with Allison likely to come back into the starting XI after Simon Mignolet started in midweek.
Past three meetings…
Liverpool 1 (Sturridge) Chelsea 2 (Emerson, Hazard), Carabao Cup, September 2018

We're off!
Whistles are sounding around the country and we are away in the Premier League!
Arsenal 0-0 Watford
4: Watford waste no time in testing Cech with their physicality. A long throw is hurled towards a crowded goal area and the referee's whistle saves Cech after he initially parries the ball.
Arsenal 0-0 Watford
5: Big penalty should for the Gunners.
Lacazette is dancing his way through tackles in the penalty ares and stumbles under Kabasele's lunge. He takes a step and stays on his feet as the ball runs out of play, but he, and about 55,000 Arsenal fans wanted more.
Everton 0-0 Fulham
8: Timothy Fosu-Mensah lands awkwardly on his arm and is taken off after initially trying to carry on. He looks in some pain as he comes off for Christie.
Huddersfield 0-0 Tottenham
Harry Kane goes close after breaking away from the defenders in the box but Lossl is equal to his chipped effort.
Arsenal 0-0 Watford
It's a scrappy start at The Emirates and you feel that suits Watford. They've been very keen to make sure that Arsenal can't string together moves starting from deep by stepping in with some timely interceptions, tackles and fouls.
Hughes goes close with a volley on the edge of the box which would have beautifully capped off a nice move. A long pass is headed into the midfielder's path and he lashes a low effort wide.
Arsenal 0-0 Watford
Luke Brown is The Independent's man at the Emirates this afternoon and says that it's going to be a long afternoon for Arsenal against a tough Watford side.
"Watford have made a very bright start, with Étienne Capoue and Will Hughes both going close with reasonable attempts on goal.
Arsenal are currently struggling to get a grip on this match, something not much helped by a snarling Troy Deeney carting his 'cojones' all over the shop, dropping deep expressly to bully Lucas Torreira in the middle of the park.
It’s going to be a long, bruising afternoon at The Emirates."
Manchester City 0-0 Brighton
It's a surprisingly quiet start at the Etihad, although the fans are certainly showing their joy at the earlier result.
Arsenal 0-0 Watford
Lacazette is played through on goal. He's one-on-one. Just the keeper to beat. Surely he'll score. He dinks it over the goalkeeper...........wide.
What a chance that was to open the scoring. Arsenal are prowling around the Watford defence as they seek an opener.
