Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. After over an hour of trying, Liverpool finally hit back against Chelsea to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League. Eden Hazard struck in the first half to ensure Maurizio Sarri's side came out on top after an intense opening period, but Daniel Strurridge's wonderful late goal means the points are shared.
The home side had defended well and David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger were on hand to clear off the line to prevent Liverpool scoring an earlier equaliser. Xheradan Shaqiri also went close with an effort going wide from close range and Alisson was called on several times to keep Chelsea's early lead to just one goal.

It’s a big game for…
Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool winger has not quite found the miraculous form of last season as of yet, and will go to Stamford Bridge with a chip on his shoulder against his former club. Salah, who was unable to make an impact in the midweek defeat as a late substitute, was barely given a chance during his time at Chelsea from 2014 to 2016, and will want to silence the home fans with an eye-catching performance.
Best stat…
Three: Chelsea have only won three of their last 11 home games against Liverpool in the Premier League. Liverpool have won five.
Player to watch…
Eden Hazard: The Belgium captain is thriving under Sarri at the moment, and is the joint top scorer in the Premier League currently with five goals from six matches. The 27-year-old will be itching to attack Liverpool’s defence, after his wonderful solo goal in the last few minutes won the Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday. He’ll need to beat a different goalkeeper this time though, with Allison likely to come back into the starting XI after Simon Mignolet started in midweek.
Past three meetings…
Liverpool 1 (Sturridge) Chelsea 2 (Emerson, Hazard), Carabao Cup, September 2018
Chelsea 1 (Giroud) Liverpool 0, Premier League, May 2018

Odds…
Chelsea to win: 9/5
Liverpool to win: 6/4
Draw: 5/2
14: Martial drops deep and gets between the lines to increase the speed of the build up play and links well with Young. The right-back tries to slip him in behind on the wing, but the ball runs out of play.
West Ham are sitting tight to hold onto what they have and their front three pose a serious threat on the counter-attack.
Mixed support for Mourinho
The travelling Manchester United supports are showing their support for their manager with chants of "Mourinho's red and white army" audible from the away end. The West Ham fans, however, see things in a different way and are hitting him with the classic, "you're getting sacked in the morning."
18: Noble's ball from deep over the top almost reaches Arnautovic. Smalling was on hand to defend and almost gets in De Gea's way as he charges out and claims the ball.
20: West Ham are moving the ball around quite nicely, no really. Arnautovic is dropping in to link things up, Anderson and Yarmolenko are appearing in so many areas unmarked. In short, West Ham are good and Manchester United are not.
21: Young delivers a string of crosses into the box, the first gets blocked and the second falls to Lukaku, who is offside.
22: Off the post!
Young's cross finds Lukaku at the front post and he attacks it in the brilliant way he can. He gets across his man and directs a header at goal but it thuds against the post and goes wide. Fabianski was rooted. United's best chance.
Young is by far United's best attacking player. Just think about that for a second.
27: Manchester United are working their way back into this game as Pogba and Martial introduce themselves to the contest. Lukaku is also beginning to make a bigger nuisance of himself in the box, he takes down a cross and can't get the ball out of his feet as West Ham scramble to clear.
